BANGOR, Maine — The man who robbed the Rite Aid pharmacy at 556 Union St. on Monday afternoon was standing at the drive-thru window, where he passed a note through the drawer demanding drugs and saying that he had a bomb, Bangor police said Wednesday.

“An undisclosed amount of prescription drugs was given to the man and he walked away,” Sgt. Paul Edwards said in a statement about the robbery, which was reported at about 4:25 p.m. “A search of the area yielded nothing at that time.”

The robber was described as a 6-feet-tall man with salt and pepper hair. He was wearing sunglasses, a black ski mask and had a blue-gray hoodie on backward — with eye holes cut into the hood, Edwards said.

The man is still at large and police are asking for the public’s help in finding him. No surveillance images of the robbery are available, Edwards said.

The robber, who was described as a “very grubby” older man, was last seen running between houses in the Manners Avenue area, a few streets over from the Rite Aid, Lt. Tom Reagan has said.

The Rite Aid pharmacy, which is located at the intersection of Union and Fourteenth streets, was closed temporarily after the robbery.

The Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service and tracking dogs were brought to the area in an effort to locate the man.

Anyone with information about the robber or his whereabouts is asked to call Detective Tim Cotton at the Bangor Police Department, 947-7382.

  1. Unbelievable!!!!!  The man was outside the building yet was still able to get the drugs?  Does anyone think that perhaps this is a case of stupidity on Rite Aids part?  He passed a note through the drive through draw and the employee had to go get the drugs.  They aren’t sitting at the window people.
I get my scripts from this Rite Aid and it is difficult enough to fill legit scripts there. Perhaps the key is just pass a note through the drive through window?

    1. It would have been even more stupid on the part of Rite Aid to take a chance on the robber bluffing about having a bomb and putting everyone at risk don’t you think?

    2. All major companies are advised to give the robber/robbers whatever the ask for. In the corporations eyes losing a couple grand in drugs is better than the hospital bills/paid leave they will have to give the victim that got tuned up cuz he/she felt like being a hero for 12/hr.

      1. Rite Aid is not required to do that. Rite Aid is just not smart and hire employees who do not care, as long as they get a paycheck, we can start with union and third rite aid

        1. Every corporation I’ve worked for has always said do not resist demands of anyone that is trying to rob you. I find it hard to believe that rite aid is any different. So they are told to put up a fIght and say no? If they do say that it’s the employees responsibility I’d demand to be armed by te company. The person who gave him what he asked did the right thing. The reason he’s not caught is the BPD’s fault. The clerk got a good description and the direction try went.

  2. I would have laughed in his face, picked up the phone and called 911, probably would have ducked just in case.  They need to install bullet proof glass, emergency buttons for 911, at all Rite-Aids everywhere so people can do the jobs they were trained to do and not have to deal with the scum of the earth.  So glad daughter went for physical therapy as opposed to pharmacy!

      1. Didn’t know that. Glad I didn’t unload thousands of dollars, six years of cramming books to wonder which time of day and which yo-yo would be coming up next to the window with a backwards hoodie with eye slits in it and a note. Welfare reform and job creation is our only salvation. Otherwise we’re doomed as a state for a long time….bad enough already. 3. Thank you past Bangor city councilors for voting to allow 3 for profit methadone clinics to operate in our city. But Lepage is cutting the Maincare for methadone….

  4. Rite-Aid: Now offering drive thru service for our valued customers and robbers! Come on, can’t some zombie hit a CVS or a Walgreens to mix this up a little? Jeez…  Actually, Rite-Aid is getting a lot of free ad space lately however…
