BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department is investigating an assault late Friday afternoon that sent a man to the hospital, Bangor police Sgt. Ed Potter confirmed Friday evening.
The assault, initially reported as a possible stabbing, occurred shortly before 4 p.m. at an apartment building on Essex Street, near the intersection of Garland Street.
Potter said that a man, whose name is being withheld, was taken from that location to a Bangor hospital for treatment of facial injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
No other details were released Friday night. However, the assault remains under investigation by the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Earlier Friday evening, Bangor police Sgt. Catherine Rumsey said it was not clear if the stabbing was related to a group fight involving about a dozen people on Center Street that took place at around 2:15 p.m.

Almost word-for-word for what I was saying…Essex, First, and Ohio-you can almost guarentee one of these are included in any violent attack that occurs in Bangor. Anyone who wants to defend these areas are either on the VERY FAR outskirts of such or out of their minds.
Essex St. has a few apartment buildings whose landlords are essentially slum lords and will rent to anyone….but most of the houses are independently owned or have good landlords who rent to good people. I used to live fairly close to Stillwater on Essex and never had a single problem…it was actually really quiet. It also wasn’t that far from this building. It’s basically a small pocket of slum lord buildings that are the problem, at least in that particular area.
well in January of this year ,ii had the brown house beside this aptartment wich you can see in the picture.I wasn’t there very long but long enough to see the cops there every day and monkey dusters in the laundry room wich i could see from my stairs.They weren’t any older then 16. The landlord in question of the house in the picture is Jay Smith and he is a slum lord and needs to screen the people he rents to a little better,for one you need to ID them sense he rents to anyone with a pulse!!!
if you check back this is the fourth time in a year this building has been in the news that i remember could be more

I’ll tell you what is going on drugs and alcohol and people sitting on their fat a….. and SSI paying for it. That is exactly what is going on. Too many freeloaders in this state!!
On the other side of Essex, towards the big apple it’s all heroin junkies living like animals.
Bangor residents, watch as your property values plummet because the Bangor City Council has made so many bad decisions over the past few years. Invite criminals and drug addicts to live here (a homeless shelter that accepts sex offenders, 4 rooming houses for sex offenders in town, and 3 Methodone clinics) and this is what happens. Why is anybody surprised?
Personally, I view sex offenders in shelters or a group living environment as being much safer for the public because the lack of privacy lessens the likelihood of them re-offending.
You’re dead wrong. Living with other felons of a like mind simply provides them with support and encouragement to keep molesting. Would you want your alcoholic relative living with a bunch of drinkers? Would you want your drug-addict child living with a bunch of other drug addicts? I think not. And, they have plenty of privacy. The rooming houses that cater to sex offenders are like apartments.
You’re actually wrong. As someone who works in the social services field, I have worked with sex offenders, including those in Bangor. The registered offenders in Bangor are kept on a very tight leash, so to speak. They are monitored very closely and those monitored them are very strict. This population is always under a great deal of pressure and have a tendency to report each other when there is anything even remotely off. They do this because if they live in the same place they don’t want to get blamed for something another offender did.
Nice try. An employee at the youth shelter told us they frequently have to chase sex offenders off the property. Tight leash my foot!

Towns and states with stricter rules against sex offenders and drug addicts have fewer sex offenders and drug addicts. When you make it easier for them to live there, you’re rolling out the red carpet.
When we lived in Bangor, there were numerous sex offenders within 1 mile of our home. In our new town in Florida, there are none within 1 mile yet there are far more residents (20,000 more residents in our new city). Of course, the ratio of sex offenders to regular residents in our new town is lower than it is in Bangor, too. Florida is much harsher on convicted sex offenders (child molesters!) than Maine is. Hence, child molesters would rather live in Bangor than live here.
Bangor has more sex offenders than Portland while Portland has double the population of Bangor. Portland’s homeless shelter does not allow sex offenders. Other cities send their sex offenders to Bangor and Bangor continues to allow this to happen, despite the increasing sex offender population. Even the police chief admitted that part of the increase in crime is due to the increase in the number of sex offenders. And, don’t forget, they get free food and housing. The proof that Bangor is a haven for sex offenders is all right there.
