CARMEL, Maine — A family of four from Pittsfield was taken to a Bangor hospital Friday evening after the car they were traveling in rolled over on Interstate 95.
Taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment were Amanda Fuchs, 27, her husband, Benjamin Fuchs, 32, and their two children, a 10-day-old and a 3-year-old, Trooper Chris Hashey of the Maine State Police said Friday night.
Amanda Fuchs, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car, Hashey said. He said the two children both were secured in car seats and that Benjamin Fuchs was wearing a seat belt.
Amanda Fuchs and the infant suffered the worst injuries, the trooper said, adding that both appeared to have head injuries. All four Fuchs were still at the hospital Friday night, Hashey said.
Hashey said the accident happened about 5:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes, when Amanda Fuchs, who was driving a Nissan Maxima, reportedly dozed off just before the Carmel exit.
The Nissan crossed over the passing lane, struck a guardrail and then rolled several times into the median.
Oh my, how truly awful for this family. I wish all involved a full recovery and strength in the days ahead.
And lets hope this accident convinces Amanda Fuchs to wear a seatbelt.
And to let someone else drive if she’s that tired, especially with her children in the car.
It may, or maybe her and her infant’s head injuries are severe enough that may be the last thing that matters now… Maybe just advise others to use a seatbelt in the future with this as an example. If this woman is at all aware of what is going on I’m sure she already feels horrible enough. Again, I wish the family strength and best wishes in the days ahead.
