BAR HARBOR, Maine — More than 4,000 customers on Mount Desert Island lost power for several hours Friday morning when a tree fell on a major power line.
The outage happened at about 5:30 a.m. Friday and affected 4,447 Bangor Hydro Electric Co. customers in Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, Seal Harbor and several other towns on MDI, according to the utility. It took crews about 2½ hours to repair the lines that were knocked down on Route 102 near Hall Quarry Road north of Southwest Harbor, Bangor Hydro spokeswoman Susan Faloon said.
Faloon did not know what caused the tree to fall, but said weather did not appear to be a factor.
“If it was weather-related, we would usually have other outages in that area,” she said.

I know at least one little boy who is thankful Bangor Hydro didn’t get the power back on sooner – it meant he got to stop and get a “treat” this AM so Mom could get some coffee. :)
Bass Harbor looked like Silent Hill that morning. Dead quiet and foggy. I thought I was going to get jumped by a pack of zombies or something.
