VAN BUREN – Mrs. Mona Madore Young went to a peaceful place with the Lord on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 17, 2012, with her husband by her side. Born Feb. 27, 1952, in Van Buren, Mona was the eldest daughter of Conde and Beatrice Madore.
She is survived by her husband, Philip “Butch” Young of Fayetteville, N.C.; her mother, Beatrice; a brother, Rodney and wife, Vanda; a sister, Linda and husband, Gene Madore, all of Van Buren; and a brother, Steve and his wife, Anne, of Fairbanks, Alaska. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Conde E. Madore, in 2003.
Raised on a farm, Mona developed an early passion for the care of animals and was always compassionate for all of God’s creatures. Her pets were her “children” and she had at least two animals – dogs, cats, rabbits, horses – under her care at all times. Working as a veterinary assistant in Colorado Springs, Colo., allowed her to show this care and compassion for other pets, and helping with wayward animals in the Fayetteville, N.C., area was one of her concerns. Originally moving to Fayetteville, N.C., in 1972, Mona went from farmer’s daughter to military wife and adapted quickly. Even while holding other jobs, Mona was very adept at keeping the home fires burning and being the great hostess for those impromptu events which soldiers can create. Mona was the perfect Special Forces wife! She spent more than 30 years as a spouse supporting special operations and was continuing that support all the way up until her illness. She always provided support for her soldiers and their loved ones, from wife of a team member through helping with all the members of “her” company. She held to her beliefs, defended those and what she loved, and was the cutest woman on earth.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Parish, Van Buren. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
