Two toothy youngsters have been named the winners of Penobscot Community Health Care Dental Center’s first Cutest Smile Contest.
Jensyn, the 11-month-old son of Brittanie Ritchie and Nick Gilman of Orrington, and Zoe, 7-month-old daughter of Brad and Kristi Roy of Bangor, attended an event last week to celebrate their new titles and discuss the importance of early oral health care.
PCHC Dental Center held its Cutest Smile Contest via Facebook through May 7, inviting people to post photos of their youngsters and their smile. Children up to age 12 of the Bangor area were eligible to participate, and photos with the most “likes” won.
Due to a near overwhelming response, PCHC chose two winners.
All of the photos are posted at facebook.com/PenobscotCommunityHealthCare.
Both Jensyn and Zoe will be featured in a PCHC Dental Center TV commercial, similar to PCHC’s “First Tooth, First Visit” commercial now airing in the Bangor market.
PCHC, a nonprofit organization founded in 1997, is the only Federally Qualified Health Center in the Greater Bangor area.
Fourteen clinics in the Bangor area offer a wide range of services including family medicine, dental, pediatrics, geriatrics, nursing home care, psychiatry, mental health and substance abuse services, physical therapy, lab, X-ray, pharmacy and health care for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness.

They are both absolutely adorable!
They have no teeth … if this is pushing for good dental health, someone missed the boat in the selection process!
It was sponsored by a dental facility. It was for the nicest smile. There was no requirement for teeth as it doesn’t take teeth to smile.
Actually their facebook page said that their smile needed to show teeth in their smile… which neither of these have. They are cute and all but they didn’t do the contest the way they layed it out to begin with. Shocking.
WELL – In that case, I think you should report this to the attorney general. This is massive fraud.
ACTUALLY Jensyn has 6 teeth, i would know i am his mother. AND Zoe is cutting her first tooth, it clearly states in the rulles that cutting your first tooth counts. you should try reading the rules before trying to bash. thank you.
Wow I didn’t know I was bashing. I just made a statement. Holy.
Jensyn has quite a few teeth and Zoe is getting her first tooth. The requirements were “cutting teeth” and ages “0-12”
There were a lot of babies that were teething (since the qualifications just said “cutting teeth”), which is why they picked 2 winners ; Jensyn who has like 6 teeth already and Zoe who is teething – Zoe had the most votes out of everyone and Jensyn had the most votes out of the children “with teeth”. It’s just a cute little contest, all the kids were adorable and deserved to win.
Very cute pictures. What a federally qualified health center means…………the place gets paid a fee for every visit(not per procedure) so be aware the reason you have to return and have ONE tooth filled at a time even if they are side by side. NOT what I call ethical, but some folks don’t have choices.
WRONG! Trust me.
Maybe people should be thankful that this dental office is around so that they can get their kids teeth fixed for “free” and that it also offers a discount for uninsured patients
It is NOT free. The taxpayers are footing the bill. The least you could do is post a thank you.
Get over it. That sort of response from people is getting old and tiresome.
Once we pay our taxes the money isn’t ours any longer.
(No I’ve never used a fed clinic or MaineCare)
Despite your trite reply it still isn’t free. Money taken from citizens at the point of a gun should be minimized as much as possible. I wonder how many dentist visits a tattoo would buy.
Rotten teeth are PREVENTABLE. People shouldn’t have rotten teeth……..especially children!! Take a look at preventing tooth decay. No it isn’t FREE……..I still say it’s unethical to inject people frequently so that the entity gets paid for every visit………when in actuality they can fix more than one tooth at a time!!
People should be thankful that this place is here…….where else are you going to go to get free services for your kids and a discount for yourself?!?!?!?!
Adorable article! :)

People are nitpicking and being disagreeable even with a ‘cute’ article.
Get a life.
To all of you who are saying this is fraud or not fair. Jensyn has about 8 teeth all in the front and they are showing in this picture if you just look at the photo bigger. Zoe is cutting teeth, the contest rules state they can be cutting teeth. Parents need to take their child to the dentist once they have cut their first tooth. So why don’t you all go worry about something else! Thank you.
they chose the top vote getter for teething children and the top vote getter for children with teeth
Isn’t she cute !
