CALAIS – Harold Edward Farrar, 83, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Penobscot Nursing Home. Harold was born April 15, 1929, in Calais, son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Waycott) Farrar.
He attended Calais area schools, and moved to Rhode Island and worked for Decorated Fabrics, Pawtucket, R.I. In 1951, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country with the 3rd Battalion, 110th Infantry. After his service, he returned to Rhode Island and married Edna Hesketh, Feb. 12, 1954. They moved to Wallingford, Conn., where Harold worked for American Cyanamid, retiring in 1987 with more than 30 years of service. Upon his retirement they moved to Sanbornton, N.H. After his wife, Edna passed away in 2001, Harold returned to Calais. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wallingford, Conn., and in New Hampshire; and Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion, Calais. Harold enjoyed woodworking and making toys for children.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Mark Farrar; sister, Helen Howard; and sister-in-law, Jane Anne Farrar. Surviving are two sons, Ralph Farrar of Nashua, N.H., and Keith Farrar of Ossippe, N.H.; two brothers, Robert Farrar and wife, Jeanette, of Hermon, and Richard Farrar of Calais; five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, Harriett Parker of Lubec.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at
