WATERVILLE, Maine — A Kennebunk man who has been in trouble for domestic violence before is now facing a felony charge after police say he choked his girlfriend during an argument on Monday.

Prince Benjamin, 26, was in town visiting his girlfriend over the holiday weekend when he became agitated over a text message he found on her cellphone, according to Waterville Deupty Chief Charles Rumsey.

The woman was holding her 8-month-old child at the time of the assault, Rumsey said, and Benjamin’s choking caused her to drop the baby. The woman and the child were both uninjured.

Benjamin allegedly asked the woman if she wanted him to kill her during the assault, Rumsey said. The suspect did not have any weapons.

Benjamin was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening, both felonies due to his prior charges, Rumsey said. When police took him into custody, they learned Benjamin had an outstanding warrant for unpaid fines out of Biddeford on the prior domestic violence charge.

Benjamin was transported to Kennebec County Jail where he remained Thursday. He is due in superior court June 12.

  1. Good.  One more loser off the streets.  Glad to know the mother and child were not physically harmed. Emotional harm is  a different matter….

      1. You said it.  Will she bail him out and say we all don’t understand him like she does?  been under a lot of stress and “gets a little mad” sometimes?

Has anyone ever seen a domestically violent man changed for the better by having a child?

  2. “Benjamin allegedly asked the woman if she wanted him to kill her during the assault, Rumsey said. The suspect did not have any weapons.” – Except his hands.

  3. …..and his bail will be $5.oo bucks and he will have to turn over all weapons which no police or sheriff’s department personnel will check to make sure he did turn over all his weapons to his family members or best friend (yeah THAT should work) or that he follows his bail conditions (if there even are any) until someone else gets assaulted or worse…. yet again….. GREAT SYSTEM!!!

      1. Oh lovely and no one checks to make sure he has turned over the list of his guns that he is supposed to give the police (and who should check the list…..ummmm…..you know like the POLICE)…… hope you are safe and continue  to be safe…..ugh.

  4. Punishment will be a suspended sentence and counseling…why not give him a lolli pop and a teddy bear and send him on his way?

  5. This one sounds like it fits the criteria outlined as high risk by the panel. I hope our bail commissioners and judges are learning from recent mistakes.

  6. PUKE!  Man oh Man . Over Texts ? A domestic , hurtin babies ? Why no picture? The public should see as he will be released .?….
