BANGOR – Barbara M. (Davidson) Spencer, 84, a well-known and highly-regarded social worker and community servant, died May 29, 2012, at Kaplan Family Hospice House,
Danvers, Mass. She was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Bath, daughter of James Leroy Davidson and Evelyn (Brawn) Davidson.
Barbara was a graduate of Gardiner High School, Gardiner, and the University of Maine, Orono, class of 1950. She was a social worker for the Bangor elementary school system for 17 years, was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Junior League of Bangor and was a volunteer at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Barbara was predeceased by the love of her life for 63 years, Richard A. Spencer, March 21, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Debra “Debbie” Holt and her husband, Scott, of Topsfield, Mass.; a son, Rick Spencer of Stetson; grandchildren, Abbey (Holt) Levantini and her husband, Jordan, of San Francisco, Blake Holt of Topsfield, Mass., Jerome Spencer and his wife, Cathy, of La Plata, Md., and Rhonda (Spencer) Smith and her husband, Anthony, of Bangor; four great-grandchildren, Daphne, Sabrina, Hunter and Madeline; a niece, several nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 225 French St., Bangor, with the Rev. Canon Marguerite A.H. Steadman, rector, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
