MILLINOCKET – Kenneth R. Jewers, 75, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2012. He was born Feb. 1, 1937, in Millinocket.
Kenneth was a graduate of Stearns High School and proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, Ken worked for Great Northern Paper Co. for a while before moving to Hoquiam, Wash., for a job with Lamb Gray’s Harbor where he met the love of his life, Myra. Ken, Myra and their four girls moved back across the country to raise their family in his hometown of Millinocket. Ken worked for the Foundry before returning to the mill where he worked as a machinist, eventually retiring from Great Northern Paper.
He grew a garden every year and enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards.
He was a longtime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Mary; and three of his brothers, Ronnie, Jackie and Billy. Ken is survived by his wife, Myra of Millinocket; four daughters, Michelle Trask of Corinth, Shannon Jewers of Millinocket, Mary Jewers of Westbrook, and Sandra Dow and husband, Damian, of Westbrook; five beautiful grandchildren whom he adored, Taylor and Garrett Trask, and Caden, Carter and Carson Dow; brother, Mike Jewers and wife, Cheryl, of Millinocket; and five sisters, Norma Waye and husband, Bill, of Millinocket, Carolyn Giurlanda and husband, David, of Glendale, Ariz., Mary Ellen Daigle of Brewer, Kaye Moore and husband, Michael, of Newport News, Va., and Cheryl Albert and husband, Willie, of Woodville. The family extends a special thank you to Uncle Bill Waye, and Cheryl and Roger Powers for all their support and help throughout, along with Drs. Jackson and Herbert, and Katahdin Area Support Group.
Ken requested no formal ceremony take place. Graveside services with military honors will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Millinocket Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest by his beloved “Brother Bill.” Pastor Paul Fuller will officiate. After the service at the cemetery, friends are invited to join the family to share conversation and refreshments at Francis Elliott Post No. 4154, VFW, Millinocket.
