FORT FAIRFIELD – Madeline Grace Churchill, 97, wife of the late G. Austin Churchill, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday morning, May 30, 2012, at a Caribou health care facility, after a brief illness. She was born May 17, 1915, in Fort Fairfield, daughter of John A. and Caroline (Simmons) Fraser.
She attended Strickland Road Country School and Fort Fairfield High School, and was married to G. Austin Churchill March 3, 1934. A devout Christian, Madeline was truly a servant of God and to her family, expecting nothing in return. She shared her heart and home with everyone and on several occasions opened her home to missionaries and evangelists. Madeline prayed and read her Bible daily. Her family was her life and Madeline taught them every day to live God-centered lives. She will be remembered as a patient and loving mother, who nurtured her family in the home, where she was born and lived until her death. She was known far and wide for her wonderful chocolate cake and frosting.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Churchill was predeceased by her husband, G. Austin Churchill, Nov. 9, 1974; an infant son, Hubert Churchill; six brothers, Orren, Willard, Colby, John, Lee and Harold Fraser; two sisters, Cora Clark and Phebe Flagg; one granddaughter, Kathy J. Churchill; and a dear friend, Miranda Amsden. She is survived by eight sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sylvia Churchill, Gary and Carole Churchill, all of Fort Fairfield, John and Shirley Churchill of Ellsworth, Colby and Dorothy Churchill of Frenchville, Richard Churchill of Canton, Ga., Brian and Shirley Churchill of Schertz, Texas, Brent and Connie Churchill of Fort Fairfield and Alan Churchill of Portland; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Benjamin Paul of Bathurst, New Brunswick, Sandra and Randall Ward of Weeks Mills and Susan and Marc Brown of Mapleton; one sister, Geneva Doughty of Presque Isle; 38 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at Celebration Center, 170 Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at the church.
