BANGOR — A local woman accused of brutally slaying her husband last year has been moved from the Penobscot County Jail to Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta, according to jail personnel.
Roxanne M. Jeskey, 48, of Bangor was indicted in July by the Penobscot County grand jury for intentional or knowing murder in the death of her husband, Ri chard Jeskey, 53, in their Ohio Street apartment. His body was found naked and bloody on June 13, 2011, in the bathroom.
She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Jeskey has been held without bail since her arrest last summer 10 days after her husband’s death.
Police have said she beat and strangled him in an assault that included the use of pliers, a box cutter and a plastic baseball bat. Her attorneys, Joseph Baldacci and David Bate, both of Bangor, have said she acted in self-defense.
The defense team last year filed motions seeking a psychiatric evaluation. Jeskey most likely was moved to Riverview so she can be evaluated by a forensic psychiatrist for the state.
A competency hearing to determine if Jeskey is fit to stand trial is scheduled for June 29 before Superior Court Justice Ann Murray.
If Jeskey is found competent, a battered-spouse defense is expected when the trial convenes in late September at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
Jeskey would face between 25 years and life in prison if found guilty of murder. If found not guilty by reason of insanity, she would be committed to Riverview until staff deemed her able to live in the community and not be a danger to herself or others.

Box cutter ??
ouch!!!
I’m guessing she went to… Riverview? Guess it beats being in prison. But being surrounded by people who are severely psychologically damaged must be just as bad as being in prison. I just hope she gets the help she needs, its not every day you kill somebody.
States right in the article that she was sent to Riverview. First paragraph.
Oops, guess I must of missed that. Thanks for pointing that out.
lol I’ve done it myself! :)
Haha good, now I dont feel so dumb =)
Nahhhhh, you’re good. I agree with your statement of hoping she gets the help she needs. Me too.
What happened to the Casino Theft story.. I guess the casino doesn’t want any bad coverage even through it’s a police matter. I bet the lady in this story would prevent this story from being in the paper if she was special like the casino.
She allegedly killed her husband almost a year ago and was indicted in July of last year. She’s been sitting in jail for almost a year and her trial starts June 29th of this year…..and they’re just NOW sending her for a psych evaluation. Her defense team asked for an evaluation last year. Wonder if it was granted. The state wants a forensic evaluation done NOW?? Why not a year ago, so they would know what her state of mind was THEN??
What man who beat, tortured, brutally mutilated, then strangled his spouse “in a fit of jealousy” would be treated like a victim by Maine courts? I bet if her husband saw her coming at him and shot her, no one would care or believe him and he would be prosecuted and convicted for murder. There would also be an army of elected feminists calling for more gun laws. Men are blamed and punished for everything. This case was one of the 11 domestic violence homicides Paul LePage blamed on men as he signed new laws to punish “men” in order to protect even such murderous women.

(For the mouth breathers here.. I was being sarcastic)
