HARRINGTON – Randy Wayne Brooks, 60, died May 29, 2012, with his family by his side at a local hospital. He was born June 28, 1951, in Bangor, son of Boyd A. and Mary E. (Perry) Brooks.
Randy grew up in the town of Cherryfield and attended Cherryfield schools. Randy served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1972, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he received two Purple Hearts. He went on to receive a degree in diesel mechanics from Marine Trade Center, Eastport, with a 4.0 GPA. He was a beloved dad and grampie, and will be greatly missed. Randy was a loyal Red Sox fan, loved fishing, riding his four-wheeler, reading the newspaper and spending time at Stillwater.
Randy is survived by his son and best friend, Matthew Brooks and wife, Candy, of Harrington; daughters, Amy of Milbridge, Meagan Watts and husband, Gregory, of Lamoine, Jamie of Ellsworth and Emily; former wife, Evelyn Kinghorn; 11 grandchildren, Morgan and Courtney Brooks of Milbridge, Kiana, Parker and Brady Randy Watts of Lamoine, Michael and Brooke Hall of Arundel, Jacob Brooks Johnston of Ellsworth and Caleb, Matthew and Abigail Brooks of Harrington; brothers, Danny Brooks of Machiasport and Boyd Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Ruth Brooks of Cherryfield and Penny Wakefield and husband, Russell, of Cherryfield; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Nora Brooks. He is also survived by his “Baby Dog,” Bandit, who he loved. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Mikey Brooks of Cherryfield. The family gives a special thank you to the Rev. and Mrs. John Bosley for the support they have given at this difficult time.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the American Legion Hall, Cherryfield, where funeral services will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, with the Rev. John Bosley officiating. A reception will be afterward. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established to help cover funeral expenses at Bar Harbor Bank. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge.
