AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s Democrats rallied around their U.S. Senate candidates and President Barack Obama’s re-election bid and against former Gov. Angus King and Republicans in Augusta and Washington, D.C., on Saturday, the second day of the party’s three-day convention at the Augusta Civic Center.
The Democrats’ convention, which about 1,500 delegates were expected to attend, focused largely on the party’s attempts to rebuild and elect majorities in the Maine House and Senate.
“We learned from our mistakes in the 2010 election and we pledge that never will it happen again,” said Barry Hobbins, the convention chairman and Democratic leader in the state Senate, referring to the Democrats’ loss of the governor’s office and both legislative chambers.
The Democrats’ gathering stood in stark contrast to the Maine Republicans’ convention last month, where supporters of Ron Paul took over convention proceedings, prevented the party’s Senate candidates from addressing the full convention and elected a slate of Paul supporters as delegates to the GOP’s national convention in Tampa, Fla.
Democrats gathered in Augusta ostensibly to settle on a platform, choose delegates to the party’s national convention in September in Charlotte, N.C., select Democratic electors to the electoral college and elect Maine representatives to the Democratic National Committee. But the first two days of the three-day confab served mostly as a chance to drum up publicity and enthusiasm for the party’s candidates.
The convention was the biggest venue yet for the four Democrats hoping to take Olympia Snowe’s seat in the U.S. Senate. The candidates, who square off against each other in the June 12 primary, took digs at King, criticizing him for refusing to p ublicly commit to caucusing with one party or the other once in the Senate.
“This self-anointed King expects he will take Maine’s seat in the U.S. Senate and that we will stand down,” said state Sen. Cynthia Dill of Cape Elizabeth, a civil rights lawyer. “In this historic election, if we concede this seat out of fear, fear will forever guide us and we will no longer be the party of hope.”
Dill and Rep. Jon Hinck of Portland called for a repeal of George W. Bush-era tax cuts, a single-payer health care system and investing tax revenues in education rather than in military efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Policies such as the Bush-era tax cuts and the Iraq war are largely responsible for running up the United States’ national debt, Hinck said.
“Let’s not let the party who championed those policies tell us that they’re going to fix it,” he said. “I don’t even want to hear somebody who might caucus with what party tell us how to fix it.”
Benjamin Pollard, a Blue Hill native who founded a Portland ecological construction firm, gave a modest, self-deprecating speech focused largely on U.S. foreign policy, human rights and fair trade. He called for putting people to work on a nationwide rail system as an investment in public infrastructure and in an expanded Peace Corps and domestic civil service corps.
Pollard said he’s not the typical political candidate. “I don’t like fundraising. I don’t like promoting myself,” he said. “I’m not only an idealist, I’m an optimist.”
Former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap called on Democrats to stand up for their values and ordinary people.
“My big picture is that neighbor of mine who goes to McDonald’s every day in February not to have lunch but to get warm,” he said. “The entrepreneur who gives up his business and the dreams that go with it because they need a job with health insurance.”
Democrats also heard from legislative leaders in the Maine House and Senate, who trotted out a new party slogan, “We have your back,” and promised to take the majority in both chambers in November.
“We are not the minority,” said House Minority Leader Emily Cain, of Orono. “We are the re-emerging majority.”
The keynote speaker, Gov. Martin O’Malley of Maryland, took digs at Maine Gov. Paul LePage during an address urging Obama’s re-election.
“When we hear people like Gov. LePage and Mitt Romney say they want to take America back, we ask, back to what?” said O’Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. “Back to the 1950s? Back to the days of George W. Bush and all those job losses?”
LePage’s political team released a document before O’Malley’s address calling him “one of the most prolific tax-hiking governors in America.”
“Some of these tea party, new-age Republican governors like LePage worship the false idol of tax cuts,” O’Malley told reporters. “Creating jobs is more complex than simply eliminating the tax responsibilities of your highest earners.”

Boy , this out to be good once these snakeoil salesmen get it in gear.
Does anybody really trust the candidates anymore.
Cynthia Dill …. ???
Please …………………….
Pfffft.
Deb Plowman …. ???
Please ……………………
Pfffft.
Yo, Jeezum,
lets not forget Emily Caine.
Double Pfffffffftttt.
Hey Einstein – it’s spelled: C-A-I-N
Sorry – couldn’t resist :^)
Um Albert, Cain isn’t running for the US Senate. Stay focused please.
Pollard’s a bit late about “putting people to work on a nationwide rail system” this? Wasn’t it the dems and back to nature folks who tore out the railroad beds for cyclist and walkers? Similar to tearing down the dams that produce clean energy? {sigh}
And now in LA they ban (re-recyclable plastic bags) which replaced the banned recyclable renewable paper bag !
They were! If a railroad track crosses a marshy acre where a special rat might have been seen once, you tie up the whole project in court till it’s dead…both the railroad AND the rat.
The RR’s shot themselves in the foot a long time ago. They don’t seem to have the ability to give service that even remotely matches that of the trucking industry. They let their own infrastructure fall into disrepair.
“Party-building over platform-building” means “form over substance”
The banner says ” Maine Dems—Let’s all hold hands and sing “Kumbaya.” In other words, If the Dems try to look good and don’t talk much about what we stand for… then maybe no one will notice that the approximately 600 people who attended.
Is this the lesson learned on the Democrats “Get a Clue Tour”?
They didn’t learn anything they are advocating not only returning to more of the same but, going to a drunken sailor mentality of even more spending on Welfare Programs, throwing out the income tax cuts the flat 4% rate that Republicans and LePage signed into law. Instead we will not only keep the very high rate of 8.5% and get 3 new rates 10%, 12.5% and 14%. They also want to raise the sales tax as well to 6 or 7% and having the bogus tax reform law voters rejected put into law and taxing us at the 6 or 7% rate. Let’s hope they don’t win because Maine will be finished it be a Permanent Welfare Haven if folks think Welfare is out of control just wait till “New Welfare State” everyone will be coming in to get what will be Royal Welfare Benefits. Those who get Welfare will be living life like Kings and Queens while what businesses and jobs are left along with working people will leave. Maine as a state would be finished it wouldn’t take long for it to be bankrupt. Barry Hobbins claims they have learned from their mistakes LOL RIGHT. No Barry you are still out of touch with what Mainers want they want jobs and prosperity not those who live on welfare doing very well while those who work 9 to 5 everyday struggling to stay in their homes. Barry you folks deserve to stay in the minority till you folks understand what us working folks are going through.
Maine’s population is less than 1.5 million people. Yet you persistently rave that the Democrats – Baldacci and co – lost millions of jobs.
So what happened to the millions of people who worked at these jobs? Our population has barely changed in the past 40 years. But, according to your right wing harping, millions of people lost their jobs because of the Democrats.
The same with “Welfare” – Le Page’s daily groan. Like him, you moan about welfare making it an all inclusive body of people who – in your right wing mind – don’t want to work.
Like Le Page, you fail to see – won’t say understand – that the state supports many people who are crippled or disables with both physical, mental and emotional barriers, which prevent them from “getting off the couch” as your leader dictates. There are a lot of children who are on the welfare rolls primarily because they do not have a parent to care for them. They have to be taken care of, regardless of what Le Page and you believe in – Workhouses?
Le Page and you cruelly blanket everyone suffering from terrible mental and physical disorders as being lazy. The system obviously draws in some of the latter. But that’s the job of government to weed out the free-loaders. Yet do it without castigating the helpless.
I hear what you’re saying Briney, but you are wasting your time. I don’t even think he/she lives in this state
Maines population has grown by over 32 percent since 1970 (40 years) from 992,048 to 1,328,361. There certainly hasn’t been a 32 percent job growth rate since 1970. Other than people moving here to retire, I can’t imagine why anyone would move here. Maybe because Maine is more generous with programs than most other states.
Bingo they are here for Welfare Programs. Maine under King and Baldy went nuts with trying to create a Welfare Haven for everyone. They didn’t follow the welfare reform laws that stated if not elderly and truly needy you had to be off it after 5 years. They gave out lavish benefits. You have folks who have 3 kids or more getting in most cases $700 or more food Stamps, huge EBT Cash Benefits, MaineCare , huge LIHEAP payments etc.. You had folks who are 19 and 20 years old getting benefits when these folks should be working. They covered every childless adult on Mainecare and Welfare who is able to work. Maine is dead last economically while in the top 3 states in terms of folks on Welfare and its lavish benefits. You have 70% of the state collecting Full Welfare or Welfare with Unemployment its not sustainable. Until we kick most of these bums off the dole and create a environment that is favorable to jobs Maine is going nowhere.
Of course you didn’t consider that some of them were born here.
Only a small percentage are drawn to Maine for a hand out. The people who have been coming here annually for more than 100 years come to relax along the Maine Coast, and on its islands. They come to stay and have built or remodeled some of the most beautiful homes to be found anywhere.
They come to fish, swim, hunt, ski, sail, camp, kayak, canoe, picnic, relax, hike, climb mountains. They delight in the easy way of life, that some would readily change for a smokestack, or, a gas tank, that offers employment to a gate guard and a janitor.
That should dispute your concern about why anyone would want to come to Maine. The constant harping about “Welfare,” with Liberals being the sole beneficiaries, has been stretched a bit too far. The DHHS is attempting to exorcise those, not qualified for benefits.
When someone moves here, they have to have an income to survive. If It’s not a retirement or self employment they survive on, it has to be a job or handouts. If we have lost jobs over the years then what form of income does a person not of retirement age bring to the table when they move here?
Nice twisting of words Liberals always love to twist the words of folks who don’t agree with them I said tens of thousands jobs if not more. Liberals have a lost memory when they continue to refuse the damage caused by the Curtis-Longley- Brennan-King-Baldacci era with the help of Democrat Legislature (Ken Curtis a Very Unpopular Liberal Democrat Gov. though had a Republican Legislature). These folks cared about appeasing voting blocks and their special interest friends. They did everything to destroy jobs, Tax nice hard working Maine people to death, did everything to appease voting blocks with cronyism, corrupt behavior, giving money to special interest friends. Oh please most of these folks are capable of working, we shouldn’t have capable 19 and 20 year olds on Welfare. We shouldn’t have folks who are deadbeats and are only good for keep on getting pregant and having multiple kids getting benefits. These folks should be cut off. Until LePage came into office Maine wasn’t following Federal Laws on Welfare. Maine can not sustain having 7o% of the population on Full Welfare or Welfare with Unemployment its not sustainable. Maine could end up bankrupt and have the same issues like California has with its spending issues. Maine needs fiscal responsible budget everyone can afford they need to start cutting the budget in half , consolidate at all levels. Cap Spending at all levels. Consolidate all school programs including Sports. Maine needs to change and that is something Liberals refuse to do for its citizens.
I met and liked all of those you hate – Curtis, Longley, Brennan, King and Baldacci. Your surmise about Curtis’s “unpopularity” is ludicrous. He was one of the most well liked and appreciated governors Maine ever had.
Your figurative expression disputing “millions of jobs” is lame. How many ” tens of thousands of jobs can you flesh out of 1.5 million people?
As is your bitter angst, not once can I recall any governor “blocking jobs.” Where do you get these wild assumptions? They’re as bad as us liberal-commie-left wing- free loaders living out of your back pocket, along with that guy who writes under Pravda on the river.
Seventy percent of Mainers are on welfare is a hard pill to swallow. Whre do you ever get these figures. Get off the couch and get the facts.
Your continued condemnation of anyone whose ramblings stray from the Far Right, is evidence of a bitter person unable to comprehend that each person is different. Like so many suffering from that tea party ideological scrunch, you beliefs are hard to envision, other than that of a totalitarian state.
Practitioners of tea party totalitarianism like Rick Snyder in Michigan and Scott Walker in Wisconsin, are committed to the Koch brother edict – the rich shall remain rich. The poor will work for them. Snyder just annexed Benton Harbor. Got rid of the town manager and is helping his rich friends construct a country club.
“Your continued condemnation of anyone whose ramblings stray from the Far Right, is evidence of a bitter person unable to comprehend that each person is different. ”
*************************************************
Please reconcile this quote with another from one of your earlier posts in this thread:
“For almost four years the airwaves have resounded with the constant condemnation of this president – the first African American ever to be elected to this office.”
A reasonable and sound Mainer might assume that you believe each person is different unless they are African American…in which case, above reproach.
…
You have to understand that in Darkcat’s mind and also the minds of Tea Party Parrots there is a logical progression of events once someone is approved for any type of “welfare”. The very first thing they do is head for the local furniture store with voucher in hand and purchase a house full of designer furniture which has to include the now famous couch that they will spend the rest of their natural life laying about on. Next it is off to the new car dealer to buy, with another voucher, a fully loaded SUV. Then it is over to Best Buy to pick up the new 60 inch flat screen HDTV. Without leaving the store they also pick up a new computer, cell phone and various and sundry other electronic items, again all paid for by voucher. The next stop is the local grocery store where they spend their time purchasing rib roast, lobsters, caviar and all of the Allen’s Brandy that can fit into the SUV all with an EBT card. Then it is back to the section 8 subsidized 1800 sq ft apartment for a leisurely soak in the hot tub. After the chef has prepared and served dinner this lucky welfare recipient is off for an evening of fun and excitement. To hear the Tea Party Parrots tell it being approved for “welfare” in Maine is similar to winning the Power Ball Lottery. Maine to hear them tell it is Club Med for The Welfare Class.
…..
I do have a close friend that works at a local supermarket. I hear lots of stories about lobster and EBT cards. Literally nothing else is purchased on the card but copious amounts of lobster. It’s not about the people that are truly in need. There are those in need. It’s about the ones that are scamming the system and are not truly in need because of “other” unreported income, or are living with a significant “other” that is doing just fine. If the fraud would be eliminated, most here wouldn’t have a beef. Where the argument lies is most Dems deny there is any welfare fraud,,,,and voter fraud. Go ahead, flame away.
You would fit in well at Maine Democrat Party headquaters with your rants. I find it interesting you talk about the powerball lottery when most of us know these Lazy Welfare Bums are playing lottery while on Welfare using our tax money to do it. Including when I mentioned about a woman who is on welfare who I saw at Hannaford’s buying alot of Powerball and Mega Millions. You thought it was awful that I complained about her buying these tickets and then buying junk with her food stamps including lobster etc.. That is the problem with Liberals you folks think that we should work harder and suffer while these Welfare Kings and Queens continue to prosper. Well as I stated to you we can always do like what the Horse Racing folks (which my Family and I was one of years ago) and Penn National did they revolted and stop the Liberals and Baldy stealing their money so it would be expanded for welfare. They won , I stated in that post which you replied that if the working folks did that the Liberals would be in a panic mode because then it would create a war on the Welfare Programs. The Libs would be forced to cut the benefits of their voting block.
“us working folks are going through”? I suppose all of the “working folk” are Tea Party republicans such as yourself. And, since you brought it up…….”working folk”? Let’s ask Where are those JOBS that your beloved, ineffective and untrustworthy Governor promised? Where’s the transparency?…….where isn’t there any confrontation with him??
The dems need to work on a solid gubernatorial candidate, to kick some Penguin butt.
Really where are all of the jobs the Democrats bring in from all of that spending on Welfare and Handouts to Liberal Groups etc , taxing, massive borrowing from the 40 years of the Democrat Legislature, Baldacci, , King, Brennan etc.. Maine should be top of the economic charts from that Radical Liberal policies LOL NOT. That is the problem Liberals just don’t get it. You can do it anyway , do it differently it still won’t work never has never will. Just like we are seeing with NOBAMA in Washington and his far left agenda it doesn’t work. Mainers want the same conservative economic and fiscal agenda that has worked and makes those states best for business. Not being known as a haven for every time of bum who loves living off of the taxpayer. Libs need to worry about 2012 it could be an awful year for them as 2010 was for them.
is this maine or mass? so i guess obama’s spending has nothing to do with our national debt. hmmmm lord help us if one of these folks get in office..
Obama’s spending does have to do with our national debt, but it’s NOTHING compared to 2 wars and the Bush Tax Cuts. Plus, the TARP bailouts were also Bush.
And for you, that makes his spending okay which is a fairly stupid way to think.
Actually, it’s fairly intelligent, since his spending stimulus created and saved millions of jobs. Just not enough to compensate for all the jobs lost under republican policies.
I guess that Repubs just want all of the Bush embarrassment to just go away. Maybe if we roll our tax policy back to what it was during Clinton, it would.
This is where ignorance runneth over. Obama INHERITED a MASSIVE DEBT created by YOUR right wingers before he ever took office. He also INHERITED the BUSH RECESSION, nearly a great depression. Obviously the government is not receiving nearly as much tax revenue during a massive recession. At the same time, the stimulus, which so many REPUBLICAN governors were so glad to receive, was needed to stop the BUSH RECESSION from in fact becoming a great depression, which is what happened. Under Obama, overall government spending is LOWER than it has been in years and certainly lower than it was under Bush. Please, try a source of information beyong FAKE-NEWS and Rush Limpmind.
lmao!! i guess the ignorance runneth over so bad it got some on you as well..
What BS. NOBAMA supporters and Liberals need to realize you can’t keep blaming everyone else its getting old you need to being responsible for the 4 years of failure. You folks have had 4 years to fix the problems but NOBAMA have made things worse our debt is now about $16 trillion dollars , unemployment is going up with underemployment figured in its over 20%, gas , diesel, heating fuel all about $4.00 a gallon, grocery prices are 3 to 4 times higher on most items, our bills are higher. All of the bailouts , stimulus etc. when is the madness going to end. I find it funny that Liberals in Maine think that individuals and couples who make $49,999 a year is rich LOL. Are you kidding me that is why Democrats are in the minority, if that is the case why isn’t Roxanne Quimby, Angus King, Baldacci’s , Eliot Cutler and all of these Wealthy Liberal Extremists being taxed at high rates. The Liberals are hypocrites. The Liberals are going to get a reality check in November. First when their hero NOBAMA gets voted out, when Republicans keep the senate seat, when Mumbles Michaud hits the highway back to Millinocket where he belongs, Gay Marriage folks cry and go on a tirade attacking us again, and when Republicans keep control in Augusta. I can’t wait till Novmeber 7th when the Party begins when people’s wallets get relief they definitely deserve.
You had ten years to fix Bush and Cheney’s creation of the $4 trillion dollar debt they handed to President Obama.
Bush handed the president two wars, a huge debt, unprecedented unemployment, a crumbling Wall Street and an almost auto industry.
If you were able to sever you one track thinking from the hyper- hypocritical tea party ideology, and read the daily quotes on oil and gas, you would see that your figures lie. Go check gas stations. Those figures are ludicrous propaganda instilled by Rupert Murdoch’s radicals on his tea party network. Gas and oil prices are down. Unemployment figures bounce up and down in sync with unforeseeable lay-offs and hiring. Items the president has nothing to do with. His Jobs Bill sits in the laps of your glorious disciples of the tea Party – McConnell and Boehner. The “No Boys” who refuse to air it out for a vote.
Your teapublican party is a sham and a waste. Some smart GOPers smell a rat and are trying to find enough courage to stand up against this gang. Olympia Snowe took an exit because of the stalemate under the Bubble. An impossible confrontation each day for $200 grand a year? Go hang your head in shame.
The republicans do not control Augusta. The tea party does, as so eloquently stated by our next US Senator Cynthia Dill.
Obama2012
“You’re so right”
Only in America—Top Ten ..
1) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich
at a $35,000 a plate campaign fund raising event.
2) Only in America could people claim that the government still
discriminates against black Americans when we have a black President,
a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is
black. 12% of the population is black.
3) Only in America could we have had the two people most responsible
for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury
Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means
Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher
taxes.
4) Only in America can we have terrorists kill people in the name of
Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims
might be harmed by the backlash.
5) Only in America would we make people who want to legally become
American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens
of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting
anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just become American
citizens.
6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the
budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as
“extremists.”
7) Only in America could you need to present a driver’s license to
cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate
whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas
went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company
(Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes
(Nike).
9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from
the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion
dollars more than it has per year for total spending of $7 million PER
MINUTE, and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.
10) Only in America could the rich people who pay 86% of all income
taxes be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t
pay any income taxes at all.
Great post. Well said.
Darkcat you really need to take several deep breaths. I am seriously concerned about your well-being my friend. Perhaps a nice long leisurely walk along a country trail enjoying nature and the beauty that abounds in our wonderful State would be a good idea. I know in your mind that the world as we know it is about to come to an end all caused by Liberals and Welfare recipients, but I promise you Darkcat the sun will come up on November 7th , same sex couples will be allowed to marry, Augusta will be back in the control of Democrats and life will go on. It really will. I promise.
Your guy has racked up a heck of a lot more debt than any other president. How can you blame a recession on one person. It was the act of many people. For starters, your liberal poster child Barney Frank, head of the house finance committee, was responsible for the decision for forcing Fannie and Freddie lenders to issue mortgages to people that could never pay them back. (equal housing lender) to the point where people could get money on bad credit, no credit, no SSN. Remember, it was the failure of Fannie and Freddie that started the domino effect. How does any president get dirty hands from a situation like this? Bush warned congress years before this happened that there would be trouble with these practices. He was ignored. For your reading:http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/releases/2008/10/20081009-10.html
Who left us a $3.7 trillion debt?
That’s a rough cost of the Bush-Cheney lie in Iraq and Afghanistan invasion. That figure barely begins to cover the cost for long term medical care for the thousands of wounded and disabled American service personnel. Neither does it cover the trillions more we have to pay to Iraq and Afghanistan in order to stabilize their governments and prevent a rise of the Taliban.
Fortunately, teapublicans refuse to look in their rear view mirrors. The horrible wars and their cost are merely something that happened which is of no consequence to them. They blame President Obama for the debt the wars caused. They’re unable to accept the fact that the Bush dynasty looked the other way when pre-warned of the Al Queda attacks of 9/11. The Bush clique brushed of these accredited warnings as non-believable. Not too surprising, they also kicked aside UN and other highly qualified intelligence that Hussein did not have WMD.
You just simply don;t pay off trillions of dollars debt in three or four years. You just don’t reconcile a depression as bad as the 1929 scourge, within three years. You don;t put people back to work when a Congress dominated by the ideological tea party blocks every government move to create jobs. The teapublican party is the party of “NO.” Blame them.
How much has Obama spent without that Teapotty House of Reps approving? I thought the budget had to be passed by Congress starting with the House. Did someone change that or did you get your facts twisted?
No budget since 2006 (Pelosi) – Budget sitting on Democrat senate majority leader Reid’s desk. Obama’s budget didn’t even get majority of votes of the democrats. You wouldn’t know this because of the lib main stream media. If Obama was a republican – EVERYONE would know all the dumb things going on. Just another reason that its important to have republicans in charge. The performs their job when its republicans in charge, even when they go overboard.
For almost four years the airwaves have resounded with the constant condemnation of this president – the first African American ever to be elected to this office.
The alleged “liberal media” echoes 24 hours a day with denunciations and condemnations uttered by teapublicans and Murdoch propagandists.
During the past year, Romney, and six of eight of the also-rans had all of their vicious sniping headlined on TV and radio. When considered insufficient, Limbaugh, Trump, and others bitterly assailed him.
There has been no let-up. Even a stringent Boot Camp will usually mellow after eight weeks. But not for this president. There will be no understanding by the Koch brother created Tea Party, and its string along, once republican party.
For more than a year, during this over embellished and financially –
obscene campaign, Americans and others around the world have borne witness to a country absurdly reacting to the presence of a black man and his family residing in the White House.
The last four years are a testimonial to the disgusting fact that racism is sickening alive in America.
Has to be a little “Awwwkward” for all the libs when everyone knows they’re all pulling for their “Lib in Sheeps Clothing”, Angus!
Liberals are self centered, so my prediction is the cute one will come out on top… LOL!!
so no one wins?
Yeah, and Sarah Palin was chosen as McCain’s running mate because of her brains…
Yes, she had more experence than Obama, and probably still does
I still marvel at her capacity to stand on her back door step in Alaska, and wave to Premier Putin in the Kremlin. Incredible woman! A national treasure.
If liberals are centered on anything, it’s someone else’s pocketbook.
Are Liberals pick-pockets?
The problem with the cute one this person has zero intelligence period. Cynthia has serious issues just listen to her radical rants in Augusta on the state legislature website , and watching her jumping up and down on a Veteran’s Memorial Site and onto headstones of dead soldiers while campainging for the vacant State Senate seat. The fact that people take this woman seriously is what is wrong with Democrats and the Maine Democrat Party. She is only running to push Roxanne Quimby’s agenda she is taking Quimby’s money to push for a park that has been opposed by Most Mainers especially those in the 2nd District. It has voted down by towns in Northern Maine , it is opposed by nearly everyone from business groups, sportsmen, State Legislature with Super Majorities in both houses voting NO, Gov. LePage is opposed to it, Congressional Delegation opposed. If she wins she has ZERO chance of winning on November 6th. It will be the Republican and King be the ones battling it out for the Senate Seat. The good news folks in Cape Elizabeth if they are smart enough will finally have the chance to put someone into the Legislature who will do the job that Dill couldn’t do for them.
You mean Le Page is opposed to it?
No one has been as self centered as this governor and his weak kneed followers.
How would you categorize Le Page? McConnell, Boehner, the Koch brothers, Cantor, Ryan? All they care about is their self-centered interest in seeing that the president serves one term. The rest of the country can go dig Dandelion Greens, for all they care.
Never trust the Experts, because if you ask a Turkey what it prefers to be stuffed with, it’ll say grasshoppers , grubs and worms.
I like Dills intelligence, but Hinck had a good line. He said “we need an election not an auction” America is up for sale, and we on both sides know that.
Dill is dangerous !
Typical TeaPublican. Calling someone who wants to fight for the middle class and the poor and the natural environment “dangerous.” It is because you TeaRadicals hate the poor, hate the natural environment, hate the middle class, and hate anything and everything that doesn’t help your millionaire heroes and your corporate masters who play you people like the corporate toadies, pawns, and puppets that you are. “Dangerous”? What cowards you people are. Absolute cowards. Afraid of women, afraid of gay people, afraid of Blacks, afraid of Hispanics, afraid of Muslims, afraid of Hindus, afraid of Buddhists, afraid of Mormons, afraid of workers, afraid of the middle class, afraid of the poor, and afraid of a 47-year-old married woman with two kids running for the Senate who wants to help the poor and the middle class. Yup. Typical TeaPublican. Just living in fear. Amazing TeaPublicans dare to get up in the morning.
Yeah she wants to fight for the middle class alright. Is that why she raised taxes on the “middle class” that your so worried about every single time since she has been in office. Is that why she is aligning herself with one of the most hated rich folks in Maine Roxanne Quimby. Cynthia only cares about Cynthia and nobody else. Just because she is a pretty face doesn’t mean she is qualified to hold Public Office. There are alot of “pretty faces” in Augusta on the Liberal side but none of them should be in office they aren’t qualified to hold the office of Dog Catcher. As we have seen with every single one they are only going to Augusta so they can get hooked up looking for love. Emily Cain did it, Elsie Flemmings did it, Erin Herbig made the news recently because of her issues with her relationship problems with a legislator. That is why Democrats are in the minority they have no intentions of Moving Maine Foward (Baldy’s and Dems favorite Slogan). All they care about is stealing our hard earned bucks and filling the pockets of their voting blocks.
Now Darkcat that wasn’t very nice of you implying that all the female Republicans in the Legislature aren’t pretty faces. Remember beauty is only skin deep. Shame on you Darkcat for saying such a hurtful thing.
Seriously, bro? You believe this tripe that you’re expounding here? It’s not based in reality, of course. How hateful and ignorant you and your diatribe.
By the way, are you familiar with a punctuation device known as the “question mark”? English-speakers use this helpful device to convey to a reader that a sentence is interrogative. Might want to Google that, Darkie.
Also BTW, some years back, I happened to have been a member of the bridal party of one the women you cite as objects of your misogyny and I can tell you she was married well before she ran for, or was elected to, political office in Augusta. Let’s hope you know of a good lawyer who can address the libel suit you might face, once a subpoena is issued to BDN and your ISP to determine your true identity.
Also BTW: Mommy issues much?
How do you – hater of Middle Class people, welfare recipients, commies, welfare bums – know so much about Ms. Dill? Your only attraction is to her “pretty face.” Obviously, you do not read what she says.
Why don’t you start your own scandal sheet? Where did you ever find out all of these “facts” about women seeking love in – Augusta? With that inane assertion, I doubt you’d even qualify for such a noble profession as dog catcher.
You spewing such absurdities is exactly what is wrong with our nation. Left and right wing radicals are why Americans are taking a stand in their own defense. They are tired of people who have nothing to contribute except hate rhetoric.
Why?
They would ban me if I answered that.
Utterances like that could get you a spot on CNN., MSNBC., NBC., ABC., CBS. Murdoch’s Mediocrity Network might offer you a talk show. You could even become a panelist with Charles Krupthammer and share space with O’Reilly, Hannity and those other gems.
“Convention” of what,10 people? You could drive truck through there, drunk, and not hit a soul. Yes a few zero’s were dropped,I could list names but that would just be rude.
Dale McCormick wanted to increase attendance by passing out EBT cards at the door, but Bruce Poliquin kicked over that chamber pot.
There were about 1,000 delegates there.
1,000. You dropped a couple of zeroes.
Hey Angus – ask Hillary Clinton how well her inevitability strategy worked out for her.
Well out here in Washington County, I have yet to see who the Democrats are putting up to run for Kevin Rayes seat. Who they are putting up to run for State Representative. There are NO signs out for any Democratis that I have seen yet. I went through Hancock and Waldo counties this weekend and all the signs out seem to be Republican.
‘NAME RECOGNITION’!!!!!! Or would you rather see more of the same from Augusta?
The Republican’s have cut and paste legislator David Burns, teens should work for $5.25 per hr., for 18 months, running for Rayes Seat.
We have this Caso woman “Tea Party” running for office.
Who are the Dem’s going to run against them??
Former House Rep., Anne Perry, is running for that seat.
Since Perry does not have a challenger, there is no reason to have lawn signs up yet – although it is a good idea to post a few.
Don’t quit your day job. November will be a referendum on Obama’s economy with 8.2% unemployment and a tanking stock market – not a referendum for angry liberals upset that LePage cut their pet social programs. Democrats and RINO Republicans are completely out of touch with the working man who needs to feed his family.
The corporate toadie TeaPublicans will be CRUSHED here in Maine and around the nation because TeaPublicans are radical pro-corporate anti-worker JOB KILLERS out to destroy the middle class. They are also the most unpatriotic, anti-Christian, and hugest corporateSOCIALISTS imaginable. They are also abject cowards, afraid of everything from gay people to women. Unpatriotic as they celebrate extreme tax inequality and shipping our jobs overseas. Right wingers want the middle class and poor to pay all the taxes while their corporate masters pay nothing. Right wingers are entirely anti-Christian. Jesus never said “drill baby drill,” never hated the poor and working classes like the right wingers do, never wanted to have endless wars, and never wanted to enrich the already-rich. Jesus would vomit at the sight of a TeaPublican. And the right wingers are MASSIVE CORPORATE SOCIALISTS who want to give all our tax dollars to billionaire oil corporations and to no-bid military industrial complex corporations. TeaPublicans are anti-middle class JOB KILLERS of the worst kind, and they will be CRUSHED in November. People here in Maine are certainly sick to death of Paul LeBUFFOON and the
TeaPublican JOB KILLERS in our state. They are TOAST come November.
Much like a prize fight. A criminal delinquent with a 4th grade education grabs a microphone and trash-talks their opponent.
No more than some who try to trash President Obama screaming their inane tea party propaganda.
“Pravda” be damned. The tea party crap is too much like fascism
You mean the Kenyan Marxist who can’t string a complete sentence together without David Axelrod putting it on the teleprompter for him?
I know. Romney is perfection: “I can’t remember what I said, and how I said it. But, I stand by everything I said.”
Ain’t nevah hard the president say anything like thot.
As an after thought. During your Army service did you only allow blue eyed Aryan soldiers to share your fox hole? Like Trump, your racist comments about the president are sick.
Obama2012
Sadly, you are probably correct as that statement applies to Maine. Which is why Maine will ALWAYS be a Welfare State!
Check out the figures for welfare in Maine. The bulk of the recipients are handicapped by either mental or physical conditions that prohibit them from working. Many homeless children, too. The drifters, or, those looking for freebies could be exorcised from the rolls quite easily by keeping up the annual classifications.
27 months of straight job growth under Obama. And what is the TeaPublican plan to help the economy? Not a SINGLE jobs bill from the TeaPubs. Not one. Just their CRAZY anti-women bills. TeaPubs are JOB KILLERS. All they want to do is cut taxes for the billionaire buddies. A FAILED insane trickle down JOB KILLING policy that has never, ever worked.
Please, try another channel. You’re infected with FAKE-NEWS LIES.
Your tea “NO” party hang outs under the Bubble are ruining this country. They’ve sat on ther Jobs Bill because they don;t want to see the unemployment figures drop. That would be a plus for the president – can;t have that. Ask McConnell and Boehner and Cantor and Ryan, and the rest of that gang committed to one goal: No second term for the president. Because of that, this country and its people have been held hostage by the teapublican party.
The stock market is doing fine. At least, the boys and girls who run the boards are. Pocketing million dollar bonuses isn’t a bad deal after George W. Bush bailed them out.
Gas prices and Oil prices are down. No president controls oil and gas prices. It’s only the teapublicans and Murdoch’s tea party propagandists who say different.
Obama2012
no such thing as a jobs bill to benifit working non union Americans
The president urged Congress to pass “The American Jobs Act” -“right away,” back in September, 2011.
In that State of the Union address, House Speaker John Boehner just grimaced and looked the other way.
I doesn’t matter who they run for US Senator. Snowe and “I think it’s time we all come together” Collins both have proved that anyone who can lie and backstab can win public office.
So why is the Democrat National Committee endorsing Anguish King?
This article shows where the press sometimes is not entirely accurate. First, the platform discussion, as often happens at such conventions, began to go over time (they have tight schedules which they try to stick to and these discussions are often lengthy – no drama just long and with a lot of protocol). So they tabled that temporarily to move on to new business and will return to that on Sunday. Next, the votes for national convention delegates and DNC reps occurred in the county caucuses and were entirely completed very smoothly. All done. What is very accurate is that this convention, unlike the GOP circus, was well managed, had great enthusiasm, and was very united in preparing to send the ridiculous TeaRadicals in Augusta packing in a very big way come November. And that is exactly what will happen. The majority of Mainers have had it with the corporate-owned TeaRadicals and their standard-bearer LeBUFFOON, and we are going to restore Maine values to Maine government by turning this radical corporate toadie bully of a BUFFOON of a governor into the lamest of lame ducks in November. Bye bye right wingers.
The Ds could get a lot of new voters if they found some inspired leadership and new ideas. The Rs pledge No New Taxes. How about you guys pledge Every Nickel of New Taxes Pays Down the Debt? Leash your crazies in public and let the Rs be the only nuts on the field, instead of being just “those OTHER crazy people.”
Keep saying, “spend more,” “cut the Evil Military and tax the Nasty Rich,” “we don’t care if the budget is ever balanced,” and “YOU people need to conserve because we won’t allow any new sources of energy” only pleases your faithful. Play to the nutty base, like the Rs, and you won’t win anyone new.
The majority of working Mainers are tired of the government taking their money and giving it to people who don’t/won’t work. We are such a welfare state that other states give their most stellar citizens (insert sarcasm here) one way tickets to places like Bangor, Maine. I will vote for no one who continues to promote our state as a bird feeder.
….
Let me see your proof of that! where’s your numbers for “the majority of working Mainers”? I would like to see where you got the information about the “one way tickets too. You made the statements…back them up. Or are they just more Conserv fables?
Sounds to me like something out of the LePage Book of Fairy Tales.
1. I think most Mainers would like to have less taxes
2. It was about 5 years ago that a Bangor social worker told me about how it seemed to them that folks were put on Greyhound in Boston and sent off their way to the end of the line. It appeared NOT to be an isolated incident.
What other States give out bus tickets to Maine to their welfare recipients?
The propagandists have brainwashed so many people on this Welfare Issue. People are unable to understand that the majority of those on so-called Welfare, are unable to work because of physical and/or mental sicknesses. Many parent- less children are also cared for under these programs. The few that take advantage could be wiped off the board if the quarterly or six month checks of applicants and recipients were complied with.
Sounds like no substance, guess they don’t want say anything.
Maine Dems want to go back to their roots of spend, spend, spend and digging bottomless pits of debt.
“The way life should be”!!!
Your great Bush and Cheney dug a deep hole with $4 trillion dollar debt.
And now $16 trillion after 4 yrs of Obama .. And 6 years of no budget from the dems.
They don’t remember that. news blackout
As expected, typical tea party propaganda of false and inflated figures backed by Murdoch propagandists. Absolutely no mention of the tea party’s Congressional Blockade in place since this president raised his hand.
The conspiratorial meeting the night following the inauguration fermented the plans for their one goal – a one term president. Nothing else mattered. Easily forgotten was eight years of waste of blood and treasure in Iraq. Ask McConnell and Boehner why they refuse to allow the Jobs Bill to be debated.
Struggling to get out of a recession made even worse with foreclosures, lay-offs, plants closing, Wall Street shenanigans, and a bitter hate for the first African-American president, look no further than the teapublicans and the mess they have created.
No propaganda – just reality – your posts feed propaganda mavens.
Name Calling – using race – amazing.. Do you actually believe ur blather?
Well good for the democrats. Lets build team spirit. Unite the country. Lower our taxes. Get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and the 100 other countries the media never reports about our military presence. Another 4 years of Barack, yipppeee. Party on. Healthcare for everyone. Welfare for all. Lets make sure that fat cats of Wall Street have no say in the Barack Obama administration. Yep…
The Democrat’s need, starting right now, to get off their collective keester and decide to actually run instead of making hoop-la. This seemingly constant dog and pony show instead of actual planning and public involvement has reduced both Party’s to, frankly, one step short of a SNL show ! It’s time that Both Side’s put their position’s on paper, sign them and then go and make their case and quit trying to show off. The one big advantage that the Democrat’s have is that every time LePage opens his mouth he publicly shows everybody just how shortsighted his vision is for Maine. Maine needs a determined ‘vision’ for the State to improve and recover. Right now Maine is on life support since it’s Executive Leadership’s ‘vision’ has apparently been reduced to take a ‘wait and see’ attitude toward the State. ‘Wait and see’ is nothing more than a stall, a public demonstration of leadership’s inability, or worse, it’s refusal to make any decision. Such a political position is nothing more than a fear of responsibility. Frankly, Mainer’s have had enough of that crap ! Leadership is all about being responsible and making the decision, despite the fear and overcoming it. It’s time for Maine to move forward, not freeze in fear or cower in a corner, afraid to do anything for fear of failing. We all saw that Nationally with, and I do date myself here, the Carter Administration. Anyone wanna go back to the days of a 21% interest rate for any type of loan, business or otherwise ? And it wasn’t just Democrat’s either. Jerry Ford was right behind him.
Maine’s Democrat’s, for whatever reason, haven’t seen this and run on it. Political leadership in the face of the ‘Chicken Little’s’ here in Maine, business encouragement (think small business start-up’s and assistance), their development, tax reform, infra-structure rebuilding (and expansion) and responsible community involvement are all area’s that the Maine Democrat’s, and the rest of us, need to focus on. And given the current crop of Candidate’s, of all side’s, the one that can best grasp these simple concept’s is the best one to represent us. But they need to demonstrate it, not just make political speech’s and send out press release’s. Put their plan and position on paper, sign their name to it and then surprise us all and actually campaign on it, and defend it, in the face of any opposition. But don’t wimp out and fold just because someone start’s namecalling and throwing spitball’s. Maine deserves’ more, and better, leadership than that. That type of leadership is what has us where we are now. Isin’t it time we made a decision for the future instead of constantly re-living the past ? I know I am.
Mike — hopefully this can make life a little bit more bearable for you, and for the rest of us:
http://www.dailywritingtips.com/punctuation-errors-apostrophe-for-plurals/
Saw it, read it and treated it for what it’s worth, namely nasty, and used, Charmin. You don’t want to stand up for your right’s and let someone else use you for a round of Donkey Kong, fine by me. The right to free speech, and the expression of idea’s and opinion’s, is something that a great many of us have fought for, and not more than a few have died for, in order for the American people to make our position’s, of both side’s, known to those that are running for political office or are in office as we speak without fear of censorship or retaliation. The very website, and newspaper that runs it, are the result’s of those right’s being exercised in this country. You don’t like what’s being said, fine. This is the United States so get over it ! One of the Country’s founding principle’s was the right to speak freely and openly, no matter how any one person or group of person’s felt about what was being said. Now if you want to restrict the ‘what’ or ‘how’ people express themselves then may I please suggest that you pack up and move to someplace more in accord with your line of thinking, namely Teheran, Moscow or Khartoum. So do us all a big favor and get off your high horse of ‘My stuff don’t stink’ and join the rest of us in actually living in America instead of cowering under your bed, afraid to make your position’s known. Cowering under your bed is what the Radical Right want’s. I for one refuse to. Anyone else wanna join in, please, this is America. Feel free to do so ……………..
Mikey, Mikey, Mikey… Why on earth would you think that I am the one who made up the rules of English usage? Why on earth would you chastise someone who paid attention in 5th-grade English class just because you elected not to? Why on earth would you think that anyone would consider the content of your ideas when he or she is unable to get past your manner of expressing them?
The basis of the argument you promulgate here is that you don’t care about the rules, you just want to say what you want to say. Mikey, next time a police officer pulls you over, will you say to him or her that the rules of driving don’t matter, the only thing that’s important is you getting from point A to point B? Think that’d work to get you off the hook of ignoring laws & rules, bro?
I celebrate our right to free speech: but once you post something in the public domain, you are subject to public review of your work. If you demonstrate marginal competence with elementary-level understanding of our tools of communication, very few people will hear what you are saying, instead getting wrapped up and obfuscated by what you consider masterful usage of our language.
Instead of picking fights, Mikey, maybe you can just brush up on what you didn’t quite get in elementary school? It’s not about me: it’s about empowering you, bro.
Good luck with it all.
The hyenas form their pack and divvy up the taxpayer’s carcass before they gorge themselves.
How can they focus wearing rose colored glasses?
They don’t want to talk about their party platform?! They must be thinking that if they tell people what they stand for no one will vote for them. “Just vote for me because I’m a democrat”…doesn’t that figure. I am going to vote for the person I believe will do the best job (democrat, republican, or independent)…for the citizens…if you can’t tell me what you stand for, don’t expect my vote.

I emailed Ms. Dill once to communicate a low key warning about her support for the North Woods Park, and how being from Cape “Elite” might be some what of a background hinderence for her to the blue collar Northern mainers. She did not like my email one bit, and let me know it with a little more dramatic repy than I expected. I flat out told her she was pretty thin skinned and to beware of the down to earth Mainers she will encounter in Millinocket. She replied that “You(I) don’t know the thickness of my skin”. I laughed and thought how I wished how I was going to be at her meeting to support the Roxanne Quimby’s proposal.
Dill……….another Liberal Lawyer for Maine…not.
Waste of your time. Cynthia, like the rest of Cape Elizabeth brahmins, think civilization ends at Brunswick and that those lands to the north are inhabited savages suitable only for weeding their gardens and cleaning their privies.
Cape Elizabeth is doing just fine…isn’t everyone?
Did the Maine Democrats take the lead from the Mass. Democrats and require photo identification to get into their convention?
The Independent checked in this week and Angus King is on the ballot. No fuss no muss. No party, no convention, no rules, no games. Just there for the people of Maine. Go Angus…
our next Senator.
Those that missed the rousing speech by Sen. Troy Jackson (D-Aroostook) Friday night, you can watch it here.
I get that the primary races are news and so the party candidates are sort of “top of the fold” stuff. I just hope that the BDN shows some integrity and gives Libertarian Party Candidate Andrew Dodge – now officially on the ballot for November and actively campaigning – something close to an equal opportunity to get his message out to the voters as you do the big playas. After all, he’s going to be at least as relevent to the process as whomever the Democrats throw out as a sop against Angus.
Yes I would agree when it comes to Community agitation I mean organization and scheming no one does it better than the Dems. They have proven that patience and taking/changing little bits at a time it the way to get it done. As the sheeple wander the fields grazing.
…
