BANGOR, Maine — Police “located the suspect vehicle” involved in Saturday night’s fatal hit-and-run on Main Street, Lt. Tom Reagan said Sunday evening.
Reagan said the driver has been identified and is cooperating with investigators. The vehicle that police say hit the pedestrian is being processed at the Police Department, Reagan said, but he didn’t release any additional information about the vehicle.
The lieutenant said it’s unlikely that any further information, including the names of the driver and victim, would be released Sunday.
“The investigation is ongoing still,” Reagan said. “Future charges are possible.”
The Bangor Police Department’s criminal investigation division is working the case.
The accident happened just across the street from Saturday night’s Waterfront Concert featuring the Zac Brown Band. The show ended around 11:15 p.m., about 45 minutes after the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
Edwards said early Sunday that “there is no indication” that the victim was a concert patron.
On Sunday morning, Sgt. Paul Edwards said police were acting on information that a small or midsize white or light-colored sedan was traveling toward Bangor’s downtown on Main Street in the left-hand lane at the entrance to Shaw’s Supermarket when it struck the victim around 10:30 p.m.
Edwards said Sunday morning that police were looking for a vehicle that may have been damaged on its front end, hood or windshield.
Anyone who witnessed the accident and has information should call Bangor police at 947-7382. Callers can remain anonymous by pressing 6 to use the department’s tip line.
Detective Larry Morrill is lead investigator on the case, according to Edwards.

it is sad for both parties
I guess I’m missing the point on how it’s sad for both parties, one cannot be anything due to the actions of another, maybe if he had stopped the person would have lived, but to drive off and leave a person on the road like an animal. Cold heart.
Well said!!
Maybe it was a young person and out of fear they didn’t report it. I think that fear can sway our thoughts of how we should go about such a tragedy like this.
If she was 16, she was inexperienced to even drive. Glad to hear this sounds like it had nothing to do with the concert and it is funny how people eye witness at the wrong times. Very glad BPD was able to locate this driver and vehicle quickly.
So, $%^^$ what! This person KILLED another person and ran away. If you’re old enough to drive, you’re old enough to know the difference between right and wrong.
Ethics and morals can also “sway our thoughts”. Wish the driver had had some.
good job! people were crazy last night.
My best guess is that the driver is cooperating NOW because he’s been CAUGHT, but last night might have been over the legal drinking limit. Why else wouldn’t he have stopped?
Its a she as far as reports have been going. The car they took from the house belongs to a couple that live in florida but there daughter is staying there
I don’t think the couple live in Florida, but are currently in Florida. One of the local tv stations have more information.
Yes misprint, should have been they are in florida, but they live in Maine. No one knows the age of the person yet, i just heard she was 16 from a source.
Thought he his a moose.
A suspended license usually goes along with the OUI.
Todays “driver” of the car may be a parent or someone who loaned his or her car to a friend….just saying.
Doubt it, from what i am hearing this person is only 16. But that is hear say right now
If that is true then it might explain why she didn’t stop. She was probably in shock, terrified and traumatized by what she had done.
Regardless of their sex or age I do hope they are properly charged and convicted.
I personally know someone who left the scene of an accident where there was a fatality many years ago. His girlfriend and unborn child died when someone passed them and forced them off the road. He went to jail, but that was no sentence compared to the torment he has felt all these years. He was in a state of shock and left on foot. He walked to an old friend’s house and was unable to speak at all for several hours. Once he came out of it he had his friend call the police. This kind of thing can happen to people, so as wrong as it is to leave the scene, it isn’t always for the reasons people might assume.
Yep. But in your friend’s case, he too was a victim. Usually it’s the driver of the vehicle that hurts others that leaves the scene. And they don’t go off seeking help for their victim. That’s why leaving the scene is a criminal act.
Yes, he was a victim…but the police didn’t believe him about being run off the road. The truck that did it did not hit them. This guy was young and known to be a little on the wild side, so he served a couple of years in prison for it, even though the accident was not his fault. He didn’t fight it, though, he didn’t care because he had lost his whole world at the time.
That is sad! In more ways then one! Just because you have had run-ins with the law doesnt make it right that you get forced off the road what a croc! I hope that he has been able to move on with his life OldWench.
So what would cause a 16 year old to panic and flee if your hear say is true?
This is what is on wabi tv 5 facebook wall. If she is young then who knows what could have been the cause. We will not know until results are in
At least they found the driver and the car. Good job Bangor PD. I am sure the family of the deceased are thankful for all the people that came forward to give the police more information that led to finding the car and driver.
True enough… and hopefully with the help of concerned and viligant citizens.
neighbors where the car was found say the car belongs to a couple that is in florida right now but their daughter is staying at the reidence.
What if the pedestrian was drunk . The first thing is mentioned was the driver drunk. This incedent comes as no surprise as these waterfront concerts bring out the mass of people and someone is bound to get hurt
Lets not go blaming the concerts, Bangor has plenty of intoxicated people walking around town on a regular basis, not just when concerts are playing. Its a sad event that has happened regaurdless..
With all the Pubs around one expects to see plenty of drunk people in Bangor. The concerts aren’t the only one serving booze
It doesn’t matter if the pedestrian was drunk or not. When you earn the PRIVILEGE of your driver’s license, you are making a promise to remain in control of your vehicle at all times, and do your best to remain safe. That means watching EVERYTHING around you, and anticipating what could possibly happen.
On the off chance that something happens (like someone stepping in front of your vehicle with no warning) and you are unable to stop, it is THEN your responsibility to STOP YOUR VEHICLE, report the incident, and REMAIN ON THE SCENE until emergency personnel show up, take reports and let you leave.
No matter if the driver was impaired or not, she made the conscious decision to drive away. Enough information has not been given whether medical aid was delayed because of that, but if it was, then she quite possibly contributed to his death even further. Who knows if a quicker medical response could have saved him.
Yup. He/she needs lots and lots of time to reflect upon the consequences of his/her careless actions….In a jail cell.
If what people are saying is true, and it was a 16 year old driver, I doubt there will be jail time. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be, just that there probably won’t be.
There will probably be heavy fines, loss of license for a period of time, some driving course requirement and/or many hours of community service (hopefully somewhere that this person sees the effects of unsafe driving).
Why don’t you find that medium who changed your life and have him/her talk with the victim to learn what happened? I’m sure law enforcement could use the help!
I don’t mean to be the grammar police, but the first paragraph of this story is confusing. Was the vehicle located on Main Street or was the reference to Main Street pertaining to where the hit-and-run occurred?
North Main Street in Brewer
both
Which person? The driver or the pedestrian? No question the driver absolutely should have stopped, but do we know how the pedestrian got into the path of the car? Sometimes pedestrians can be culpable, too.
Yes, pedestrians can and do stupid stuff but as you said they driver should have stopped. When you hit and kill someone and do not remain at the scene it doesn’t make you shine in a positive light.
thanks for your 2 cents!
I was thinking the same thing, the person driving the car was probably drunk and of course is now sober and cooperating now…. “oh oops I didn’t know….”
Vehicle was found at 1255 north main st in Brewer
Everything has now changed…If the rumors are true it was a 16 yr old girl.
Leaving the seen of an accident should be the charge. and charged as a minor.
Lets not ruin the chances of this young girl from having a good life.
Sad Accident for all involved, God Bless you all. Amen.
It wasn’t a girl. The previous posts had it correct.
Rumors
I believe that Davidvsgoliath was referring to the driver as being as 16 year old girl, not the victim.
Are you kidding me!!! so everyone is allowed to run over somone as long as there are no priors? Age should have no effect on the charge, What about the man that was run over? didnt he deserve to have a good life and longer?
She ruined the life of the pedestrian as well as his family……..
No reason she should spend time behind bars but at the very least she should be suspended from driving for a decade
That intersection is an engineering disaster, and Main Street in general is a horrible place for anyone in a car or on the sidewalk, but this is obviously a serious crime
Who’s assuming? We’re speculating.
This driver should have been cooperating on the night of the accident by doing the humane thing and stopping. While he/she may or may not have had a cell phone, the individual was the first aware of the accident. I am unsure of the specifics of this accident but if it could have increased the likelihood the pedestrian would have survived, it is inexcusable.
If nothing else, at least turn on your flashers to make certain the victim in the road wasn’t hit by another passing vehicle!
Please tell me he isnt going to get off light with an excuse like, “But i didnt see him, and the music was too loud, and well the Zac Brown band was so good i couldnt help but look over and only took my eye off the wheel for a second…bottom line is still that this poor man lost his life..My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends
Police have the auto….identified suspect…but no name or arrest. Sounds like another “well connected” offspring of a local biggie is involved..seem familiar?
things take time – let’s not jump to the conspiracy theories.
A high profile care just ended in Buffalo Ny , An 18 year old girl was stuck and killed by a hit and run. Turns out he was a well known physian that left the scene of an accident, not only did he leave the scene he was drunk just came from the country club. and texting his girl friend he’s in his 50s and married. All felony charges were dropped against him , the jury got him on a misdemeanor. You never know how this will turn out.
Whoever hit this person in Bangor prayers are going out to the family.
If a 16-yr old driver…. Maine has curfews for new drivers in their first months… but usually midnight? Who knows the current restrictions on new drivers who are 16?
When my son got his license 3 years ago, it was no underage passengers (other than siblings) for 6 months and no driving after midnight for 6 months. Must wear a seatbelt. That may have changed since, but not to my knowledge.
Wonder if she had any passengers in her car? Some of the eyewitnesses might be able to note that.
Good Detective work for finding the car and driver.
This is truly tragic if true……Josh is a gentle soul 8(
There is no excuse for a hit and run but the pedestrians in Bangor jay walk worse than any place i’ve ever seen
(response to: WallsK)…So if the trail led to (say) a Capehart unit..the police would not release names and arrest someone for leaving the scene? I think otherwise…something is amiss here…never said anyone was conspiring…but wonder what’s up with the delay.
WOW some of you posters have already found this person guilty, sentenced, and have already tossed the key. You are the type of people that shouldn’t be picked for a jury box. I am willing to wait for the FACTS. Why speculate??
After Shaw’s closes and turns off their parking lot lights, there are NO lights at that intersection. Its very dark. Could be a factor, and could be easily remedied.
