BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man was arrested Sunday morning after assaulting a 24-year-old woman and pulling a butcher knife out of his pants while being questioned by authorities, police said.

A witness saw Christopher A. Smith, 27, shoving a woman in downtown Bangor and reported the incident at 10:38 a.m., Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

After Officer James Dearing arrived on the scene and began questioning the couple, Smith revealed he had an 11-inch butcher knife with a 6-inch blade that was concealed in his pants, Edwards said.

Smith was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and carrying a concealed weapon. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there on Tuesday, Edwards said.

  1. option 1: more money in the general assistance fund to feed the transients because carrying knives is hard work and makes them hungryoption 2: chain them together and make them work before feeding them
option 3: bus ticket to Boston where there are more liberals to feed them

    1. I thought Massachusettes was sending them to Maine? Particular the most liberal part of Maine with the best known homeless services, Portland, Maine

  2. What is it with knives and downtown Bangor lately? Like I said the other day downtown is becoming a Combat Zone. Sad!

  3. Hey Officer Edwards, i thought this was just a cycle…been going on three weeks now and almost every single day there is a shooting or a stabbing…Will you now stop going on television and giving those rediculous comments about how Bangor is still just as safe as it always was and how this is just one of those things that happens….Give me a freaken break already.
