BREWER, Maine — An unidentified woman drove her Subaru Outback into a building shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, punching a hole through the wall at Brewer Redemption Center on North Main Street.

Brewer Assistant Fire Chief Chris Dore said the female driver, whose name he didn’t have available, was not injured.

City code enforcement personnel were at the scene soon after the accident assessing damage.

Dore said he believed police would estimate between $25,000 and $30,000 in damage “just to be safe.” Dore said the business would be allowed to remain open.

  1. It’s a good thing that Mr. Dore is not employed as an insurance adjuster. That car had an MSRP of about $25,000. The wall might be around $2,000.00. There must be a lot more damage to the Outback than can’t be seen in this picture.

    1. i can see them totaling out this vehicle… theres a concrete parking barrier thats lag bolted into the ground thats about a quarter of the way under her car… wouldn’t take much to have ripped out the oil pan and parts of exhaust and who knows what else under there… not to mention the frame…and since it’s a cinder block wall and not a brick wall the radiator is probably toasted too. so i really don’t think his estimate is that far off

      1. 80% of retail NADA is generally required to declare a car a total loss. All the books are rediculously high these days. No way that car is a total. The car has no frame, it’s a  unibody produced car.

    2. Maybe many cans were crushed beyond redemption due to this accident in addition to this wall and vehicle.

  2. Ever walk into a redemption center? What’s it smell like? Beer!

The lady was probably drunk from fumes, even in the parking lot.

    1. That place is the cleanest, best smelling redemption center in the area. Glad the lady was not injured…sorry for her car though.  :(

    1. The sign above where the car hit said Parking Only, she was just following the directions.
Now they  could have a drive up/walk up window with half of the work started, I think they should go with it.

  3. Probably just one of those cases where she thought it was in reverse instead of drive. Happens more often than you’d think. Just glad nobody got hurt. You can fix the wall and the car, cant fix somebody if they got killed. I wouldn’t want to pay the insurance rates after that though haha.

  4. Tragic.
An out of control diver almost kills herself .
I will await toxicology/medical reports on the woman.
Clearly she was having “issues” at the time.
Glad there were no reports of death or injury.
    Miraculous !!

  5. Hope, she was not TEXTING….wearing dark sunglasses, doing her nails and talking with the stereo on loud and dropped her smoke.

  6. she thought the place needed a drive thur was just tryin to help get the project started

  7. wonder why the air bags didnt deploy? made a hole in the wall  had to hit pretty hard dont think i would buy a subaru

  8. My mom once drove down a flight of stairs at my college. (not under the influence, either).  Hath risen from  the dead.
