BANGOR, Maine — Residents have a chance to vote on the $41,238,725 Bangor School Department budget for 2013 on Tuesday, June 12.

The short ballot contains just one school budget validation referendum question and requires a “yes” or “no” vote after the following text:

“Do you favor approving the Bangor School Department Budget for the upcoming school year that was adopted at the latest regional school unit budget meeting and that includes locally-raised funds that exceed the required local contribution as described in the Essential Programs and Services Funding Act?”

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bangor Civic Center. Early voting concluded Thursday evening.

  1. One of Maine’s best rated school systems is worth the money spent. The results speak for themselves.

  2. I know I’ve said countless time that I don’t like big government, etc. But the schools are different. We need to fund these schools. I visited my son’s school a month ago and could not believe the horrible shape it was in. We have been cutting funds for education for too long. I encourage my fellow republicans to vote to help our kids out if we want any kind of future here in Maine. Let’s do the right thing and stop the partisan politics.Vote for our kids futures, not against them.

  3. I will definitely vote for passage, but am disapponted there are so many cuts.  We need to keep Bangor schools strong for our children’s futures as well as the future economic viability of the Bangor area.  Please, no more cuts.  I, for one, am willing to pay more for education.
