BAR HARBOR, Maine — Acadia National Park in Maine is offering free admission in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day.
Acadia — along with the nation’s 396 other areas in the national park system — is waiving entrance fees on Saturday to encourage people to get out and enjoy the outdoors and enjoy the park’s natural beauty.
Park Superintendent Sheridan Steele is encouraging visitors to enjoy Acadia’s many hiking trails and biking roads.
Acadia is also offering free admission on Sept. 29, which is National Public Lands Day.
Wish I’d known there was an open day sooner so I could have gone today. I have not been back to Acadia since the fee was imposed. I got engaged to my late husband while sitting and overlooking the ocean and used to go there about once a year to visit the spot and remember. Having to pay a fee just to enter the National Park to view the scenery and nature is ridiculous.
There are plenty of areas in the Park, plus Schoodic where you don’t have to pay a fee just to enter.
I didn’t get engaged to my late husband at Schoodic Point or those other areas.

Cadillac Mountain Entrance, no fee, you can drive or hike to the top of Cadillac Mountain or enjoy the view from Blue Hill Overlook and not pay a cent! Same with the Hulls Cove Visitors Center, again entering the National Park. There are several areas of the Park people can enjoy with out paying a fee. It’s also possible to enjoying miles of carriage trails, again, entering the Park without paying a fee.

Just biked around Eagle Lake, no charge.
