SULLIVAN, Maine — Two Ellsworth women were sent to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital after their car overturned into a ditch Tuesday morning on Route 1 in Sullivan, police said.

Sheila Batson and Barbara Redburn, both 81, did not complain of any specific injuries, Maine State Police Trooper Cliff Peterson said, but the driver and passenger were both transported to the hospital as a safety precaution.

The two women were driving northbound on Route 1 when a rusting rear stabilizer bar loosened a wheel, causing the car to tip over at approximately 10:50 a.m., the trooper said. The Sorrento and Sullivan fire departments responded soon after and closed one lane of traffic, Peterson added. (Dylan Martin, BDN)

  1. The make and model of the  vehicle would be helpful-especially to readers driving the same car or suv. They may want to walk until they have time to inspect their own car.
