FORT FAIRFIELD, STUART, Fla., and TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. – Joseph O. “Neil” Michaud, 87, beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Kaspers) Michaud, passed away Saturday evening, June 9, 2012, with his family by his side at a Stuart, Fla., hospice facility, after an extended illness. He was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Limestone, the son of Thomas and Agnes (Lavoie) Michaud.

He attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, in several areas of Italy. He was married to Margaret “Peggy” Kaspers, Oct. 10, 1946, and owned and operated Mohawk Steel of Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y. Joseph was a member of Local No. 138 Operating and Engineers Union; a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2913, Patchogue, N.Y.; Sagkikos Rod and Gun Club, Baystone, N.Y.; and St. Lucie Falls (Fla.) Community Group. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Michaud loved boating, hunting, fishing and just being in nature.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by one son, Ronald J. Michaud; and nine sisters, Eva Saucier, Rose Archer, Delina Marquis, Bertha York, Ella Boulier, Blanche Campbell, Dorothy Knox, Cecil Ouellette and Clara Snow. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy of Stuart, Fla., and Tupper Lake, N.Y.; one son and daughter-in-law, George T. and Patricia Michaud of Patchogue, N.Y.; two sisters, Theresa Carney and her husband, Richard, of Sheridan and Edith O’Clair of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Aaron Damboise. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the funeral home with the Rev. Aaron Damboise officiating. Interment with military honors will take place after the service at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, after the interment service. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Michaud to Harper Hospice House, 1201 SW Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
