HOLDEN, Maine — A Bangor firefighter has been summoned for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report it promptly after his pickup truck was found crashed early Tuesday morning, Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester said Wednesday.
Police were called to Eastern Avenue after the pickup was discovered with its airbag deployed but no driver inside, Worcester said.
“They searched the area and found no operator,” the chief said. “They pretty much searched the rest of the morning for him. Later in the day, the owner of the vehicle came forward.”
He had some visible injuries, Worcester said.
The firefighter, Douglas Hollard, 51, of Holden, told police he was not driving his truck when the crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Worcester said. Hollard came to the police station Tuesday afternoon.
“At this time, it’s still unclear who the operator was,” said Worcester, adding that the crash is still under investigation.
Hollard, who does not live on Eastern Avenue, was charged with failing to report a personal injury accident by the quickest means and leaving the scene of an accident, the police chief said.
Holland’s blue 2008 GMC pickup, which was found about 20 feet from the roadway, is “pretty much totaled,” Worcester said.

Did the cops put out an APB for the real driver, a Pink Elephant?
In the words of Ricky Ricardo….”you got some ‘splainin to do”…….
Anybody seen or heard from Kevin from Bangor?
Since he had injuries, he thought better of claiming that his truck had been “stolen”.
Maybe he had a concussion and or was unconsious and walked away when he came to. If he didn’t remember crashing his truck, why report it. I am an EMT and yet I can see a loophole here. Was it a witnessed accident? I don’t mean to excuse him, but there may be probable cause.
Yeah, I think there is a probable cause!
The all too common reason listed these days is “a medical condition/seizure”. Isn’t that what the Secretary of Commerce’s(?) explaination has been in the last couple of days? I hit one, got out and looked for everyone’s health, drove a little more and hit two others? Yup! A seizure. There’s the probable cause (regardless of an EMT’s judgement of what legal charges there should/might be).
“Had visible injuries” but he was’nt driving, riiight
Thinkin he talked to Jeff Pelletier and they had the same story
sounds like an episode of American Loggers
LOL! That is an interesting parallel. Semi-famous people? How Ted Kennedy of them both.
“I’ll just show up later with an implausible excuse!”
Why do they have to list his profession? If it’s because it’s a publicly funded service job, than why don’t they list all the buffoonery laden accidents like this one that involves every publicly funded service worker. I bet you won’t see a headline like this: “DHHS social worker charged with criminal OUI”.
What does his profession have to do with it.
BDN starting smear campaign against fire dept.
It didn`t happen when he was on the job
Was off duty and on own time
On his own time? Off duty?
Then at least he, and not the town, will be on the hook for any unknown/potential damages. That just might take care of your first, third and fourth lines.
As to your second line…….??? Emotionally overreactive with no facts? Not worth any more remarking about!
If he was dealing in drugs and died retuning from a drug deal he would be a hero.
BDN is more about running peoples names through the mud than actually writing about REAL news!
Is it Hollard, Holland? I am confused you have two different names all through this article!
BDN for ya.
Did he have airbag burns on his face? If he did, he certainly was driving.
Well Sherlock, most vehicles have them on passenger side too…. try again LOL (I agree, he is probably guilty as sin, but your argument as to why won’t hold up)
First off, I’m not Sherlock as that was a fictional man. I am a 62 year old woman (never name your pets when signing up for yahoo.) Second, just because “most” vehicles have airbags, doesn’t mean his did.
what does being a firefighter have to do with this?
Could he have been disoriented after the crash?
