BERWICK, Maine — Several teenagers were arrested Friday night after their vehicle was stopped by police as part of an underage drinking party patrol sting.
Around 9:30 p.m. Berwick police pulled over a vehicle on Sawtell Road that contained six minors, including a 16-year-old female driver, a 16-year-old female passenger and four 18- and 19-year-old men in the back seat of the vehicle.
Two of those men, 18-year-old Alex Jacobs of Rochester and 19-year-old Tyler Coull, both of Berwick, were arrested and charged.
Jacobs was charged with furnishing liquor to a minor and obstructing government administration, both misdemeanors.
Coull was charged with unlawful possession of synthetic hallucinogenics — bath salts — and sale or use of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanor crimes.
Police reportedly recovered bath salts, a bag of marijuana, three different marijuana pipes and open containers of beer in the vehicle.
The driver and passenger also faced charges stemming from possession of alcohol and operating a vehicle with an open container.
According to Detective Bill Russell, the vehicle was traveling on a road marked “no trespassing” and had just emerged from a “pit party” where police say underage drinking and illicit drug use is commonplace. Police were specifically patrolling the area looking for underage drinking and pit parties when they pulled over the vehicle.
Jacobs and Coull will both appear at York District Court in Springvale on at 1 p.m. Aug. 14 Both were arrested and released on their own personal recognizance.

Wow. Their parents should be proud.
“where police say underage drinking and illicit drug is commonplace ”
Illicit drug WHAT? Selling? Using? Buying? All of the above? Way to go with the editing.
I’m confused as well…
“Two of those men, 18-year-old Alex Jacobs of Rochester and 19-year-old Tyler Coull, both of Berwick, Maine, were arrested and charged with a variety of charges.”
So, were they BOTH of Berwick? Or one was from Rochester and one was from Berwick? Or is it just too early in the morning for me?
Editing= fail
WOW I’m glad to see I’m not going crazy I read it 3 times thinking my coffee didn’t kick in yet.
Someone messed up somewhere.
So the comment and related comments that accused the police of ignoring “real” crime and picking on teenagers have been removed. Amazing that someone would excuse what these teens were doing when it so often results in death and lifelong injury to so many.
