STANDISH, Maine — Two boys reportedly have been charged with arson in connection with a fire on Mosley Road that destroyed a historic chapel.
The boys were arrested, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Standish Fire-EMS went to The Richville Chapel around 1:30 p.m. after a report of a fully involved structure fire. Firefighters had to fight the fire from the exterior, according to Fire Chief Brent J. Libby.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
The nearby road was closed while crews battled the fire, a dispatcher said.
Water was supplied from a nearby brook but manpower was limited given it was a weekday fire, Libby said in a press release. The fire was brought under control about 2:30 p.m.
No one was injured in the fire or the firefighting effort, Libby said. Mutual aid was provided by Gorham, Windham, Buxton, Limington, Sebago and Baldwin fire departments.

I wonder if the parents were aware their little ‘punk in the making’ was hanging out with a juvenile hall brat.
Probably didn’t make a difference.
Nope. Birds of a feather…
Idle hands do the devils work
Heaven forbid someone forces these ‘kids’ to do chores around the house if they’re not very active with sports or the like.
A stupid act like this will now follow them for the rest of their lives. With the internet, employers can and do check closely before hiring. I know I wouldn’t want an arsonist working in MY business.
Have a good time trying to find a job now, boys! What a colossal waste.
Watch them get off easy… they should have to work to pay off full and complete restitution AND help rebuild the church.
I have a guy that works for me that has been charged with arson three times, five burglaries. 15 years ago. He is totally different now. Changed his life around completely, goes to church three days a week too
People can definitely take a bad situation and turn their lives around – there is no doubt about it! Hopefully these boys see that potential and do so… unfortunately in the Portland Press Herald story (linked in the article) it says one if the boys has already spent time in the Juvenile Detention Center, hope he smartens up sooner rather than later!
I know that juvenile records are sealed and whatnot, but these “kids” are old enough to know better, and a little shame might be just the wake up call they need – or their parents need – or both. The names should be released in my opinion…. Also, when the church rebuilds they need to be there helping with the building – call it community service and make it part of their sentence. Summer is just starting, no reason they can’t get to work right away…. Sitting in a detention center obviously didn’t work the first time for one of them, why would it work again?
