WATERVILLE, Maine — A woman who broke into a local pawn shop and stole a firearm has been arrested, according to police.
Megan Gagne, 26, had initially eluded police after the early-morning break-in of J.R. Pawn Shop on Elm Street on June 4, but she returned to the scene of the crime later that day to pawn some items, according to Waterville police Chief Joseph Massey.
Gagne went to the store about 12 hours after the theft, “pawned some items and then shopped around,” he said.
Gagne then attempted to steal a paintball gun by concealing it and walking out of the store, Massey said. A shop employee called police, who when they arrived found Gagne sitting in a car with a man.
Police searched a backpack she had with her and located one of the three weapons — an automatic pistol — stolen in the initial robbery, according to Massey.
Gagne was arrested and charged with shoplifting, burglary and possession of a stolen firearm, Massey said. Police are still investigating the case, as the other two guns taken from the shop have yet to be recovered.
“We think she’s not telling us the whole story; we think she didn’t act alone,” said Massey.
Gagne was taken to Kennebec County Jail, where she remained Thursday.
Wow.. if you’re going to steal something, dont go back to that same place. I think she broke the law of “Common sense.”
