BLUE HILL – Hilda Pauline C. Woods, 93, died June 10, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 29, 1918, in Rockwood, the daughter of Leslie George and Doris Erma (Walker) Chapman from Bangor.
Hilda graduated from Bangor High School. She and her husband, Doc, owned and operated a popular summertime restaurant in Blue Hill, The Barnacle. Hilda enjoyed working at Thompson’s Gift and Book Store, Ellsworth, with Sally, Polly and Joel. She enjoyed golf, sewing and painting. Hilda was a life member of Mountain Rebekah Lodge No. 87, former member of Blue Hill Country Club, served as president of Four Town Nursing Program, was active in the garden club and served on the board of Blue Hill Aid to Children in earlier years. Hilda and Doc spent many winters at their home in Lakeland, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice W. Prior-Crofoot; grandchildren, Christopher Marriner of Palmetto, Fla., and Candace M. Rowell of Freeport; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Fessenden; and two nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter “Doc” Woods; daughter, Sandra Marriner; sister, Arlene LaFountain; brother, Carlton Chapman; and son-in-law, Willard Prior-Crofoot. The family thanks the administration and caregivers at Winterberry Heights for the loving care shown to Hilda.
Interment will be held 10 a.m. July 7 at Seaside Cemetery, Blue Hill, with a reception for friends and family 11 a.m. at Central Hall, South Blue Hill.
