SOMERVILLE, Maine — One person is dead after a fiery car accident in the Lincoln County town of Somerville, according to police.

The accident took place just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, he Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The vehicle left Somerville Road and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to burst into flames. When authorities arrived on the scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed, and the driver was found dead after the fire was extinguished.

Police aren’t identifying the driver, whose body along with the vehicle were taken to the Maine State Police Crime Lab.

State police are reconstructing the crash, which remains under investigation.
