PORTLAND, Maine — Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine are pressing for a floor vote on the nomination of a Maine lawyer to the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals that’s being blocked by GOP leadership.

President Barack Obama’s nomination of William Kayatta Jr. has been held up by a moratorium on confirmation of appellate judges that often happens in presidential election years.

The Senate Judiciary Committee confirmed his nomination in April.

Collins said Kayatta’s nomination is languishing because the Obama administration didn’t move fast enough to prevent the presidential year stalling tactics. She says it’s unfair to Kayatta.

Snowe says the nomination of the Cape Elizabeth attorney is not controversial and will receive strong, bipartisan support if only it’s allowed to go to a Senate floor for a vote.

  1. So it’s “Obama’s fault because he didn’t move fast enough”. What a joke. Blame it on the President when all along republicans have blocked appointments and job programs. This is another example of why people have lost respect for politicians.

      1. So what was the excuse for the republicans blocking other appointments and programs for the last three years? It’s nice to see that you admit the republicans are playing politics with policies that affect this country.  This has been obvious to most Americans and the reason Obama will be overwhelmingly reelected. It is past time to get rid of those on the right wh0 put the party ideology above the good of the country.
