WALDOBORO, Maine — Police are investigating an accident in Waldoboro that killed an 81-year-old woman.
Authorities say Florence Bryant of Belfast was killed at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a car in which she was riding was struck from behind by a pickup truck on Route 1.
Police say Bryant’s husband, 75-year-old Richard Bryant, had slowed down to make a left turn when the truck rear-ended the car.
Richard Bryant was taken by medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The driver of the pickup truck, along with his wife and their child, were taken to Pen Bay Hospital.

Rest in peace , its another sad situation with accidents
Yes, A very deadly spring on Maine’s roads and highways.Sad
This is the second fatality in recent weeks in that area. Years
ago (60’s and 70’s) that particular stretch of road along with the low flat
stretch of Waldoboro was the scene of many accidents, and eventually of
frequent state police patrols and monitoring, as well as the shortening
(height) of all the traffic sign posts, which are still present today.
Regarding this last, the signs prior were set at the height of a semi’s windshield
and somehow the low flat of that road and want for speed caused automobile motorists
to see nothing but posts going by. Its strange how over time the reasons for are
forgotten, and we arrive back at square one. The simple answer as they found
years ago was to increase state patrols through the area, and hand out the tickets.
Why is it that no one up here knows how to DRIVE!? What happened to watching the roads? What is the big hurry up here? There’s nothing around but TREES! Total IDIOTS! Hopefully this driver will get jail time!
This driver may have made a serious mistake. Before pushing for time in jail don’t you think a thorough investigation would be in order? Was there mechanical failure, or another contributing factor? To me his previous driving record would be paramount before any legal action that resulted in jail time would be needed. I really wish people would wait for the facts before making these types of statements. This could have been my family or yours in either vehicle.
