PORTLAND, Maine — Despite Maine’s long hunting tradition, she rebuked the National Rifle Association. In the face of loud opposition, she wants to consider a national park in northern Maine. While her fellow Democrats celebrated a presidential visit, she chose to protest against big money in politics.
Cynthia Dill, who won a decisive victory in the U.S. Senate primary, isn’t afraid to speak her mind on thorny issues, even those that risk alienating some voters.
“There’s not a lot to lose for standing for what you believe in when you’re the underdog. I don’t see what the gain is to try to please everyone, pandering to whichever way the wind blows,” she said.
Despite her victory, Dill remains an underdog in the campaign for the Senate seat that’s being vacated by Republican Olympia Snowe, who chose not to seek re-election.
Both Dill and Republican nominee Charlie Summers face a challenge against well-known former two-term Gov. Angus King, one of four independents on the November ballot.
Dill’s top campaign issues are jobs and the economy, making health care more affordable and accessible, and “economic and social justice.” She thinks the federal government has a role to play by directing money toward education, infrastructure and research and development.
Critics call her ultraliberal. She calls herself a progressive.
She’s no shrinking violet.
Dill describes the National Rifle Association as a “special interest” and said she’s for reasonable gun regulations in a state where domestic violence remains a big problem for law enforcement.
As for a national park, even though many people around Millinocket oppose it, she says it’s smart for the state to at least study the idea.
“The park represents an opportunity for jobs and diversifying the economy, and applying values that I think are Maine values: public space, philanthropy, parks, access to nature, ecotourism, research, business opportunities,” she said. “There’s just something so fundamentally American about national parks.”
And then there’s big money in politics.
For the record, Dill supports President Barack Obama and believes he has done great things. Nonetheless, while Obama was dining with campaign contributors at the Portland Museum of Art on March 30, Dill was across the street in a “free speech zone” near OccupyMaine demonstrators.
Dill didn’t join in the drum-thumping Occupy demonstration, but she was there to voice her own concerns about the corrupting influence of money in politics.
She said she respects the Occupy movement. “In Maine, I thought it was a great example that the First Amendment is alive and breathing,” Dill said.
Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster said Dill attaches herself to “far-left issues” and that it’s her type of views that has led to the declining influence of the Democratic party in Maine and the party losing control of the Legislature and the governor’s seat.
“She is the perfect poster child of the Maine Democratic Party,” Webster said. “Liberal, pro-welfare, pro-government, anti-gun, national park up north, gay marriage. I can’t think of anybody who better epitomizes what the Maine Democratic Party is all about,” Webster said.
Dill is a relative newcomer to politics, and she’s on the move. In just eight years, she’s gone from her local town council to the state House to the state Senate.
Now she’s the Democratic nominee in a race that could shift the balance of power in the Senate, where Democrats currently hold a 51-47 majority with two independents who caucus with them.
Dill, a lawyer, resides in Cape Elizabeth, an affluent community outside of Portland, and her views represent a good fit for her liberal congressional district, which seems to move more to the left with each election, said Mark Brewer, political science professor at the University of Maine.
But her views present a challenge in a statewide race.
“Some of her positions are not going to go over well with unenrolled voters and maybe some typical blue-dog, Mike Michaud-type Democrats,” said Brewer, referring to the Democratic congressman in Maine’s northern congressional district, which is viewed as more conservative than Dill’s district.
Dill, by now, is getting used to being the underdog, even after collecting 44 percent of the vote in the four-way Democratic primary, beating former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap by 8.5 percentage points.
She understands that it will take a monumental effort to take down King.
“He’s the frontrunner until he loses. I’m the underdog until I win. I’m in this to win. I realize that the odds are long but nonetheless I’ve been in the race in advance of him stepping in, because it’s important that we speak up for things we believe in,” she said.

Progressives are ultraliberal, and Ms. Dill is one of them! She could be a clone of Debbie Wasserman-Shultz, also, but her hair and eyes aren’t as wild. No doubt that she will be getting money from George Soros’ many PAC’s he has formed to skirt the political giving.
She won’t be getting many votes north of Augusta. I’m sure Charlie Summers is hoping she’s the next Libby Mitchell.
Speak for yourself. I’m north of Augusta and am voting for her.
a wasted vote, I’m a registered Dem but she’s gonna get creamed.
The campaign just began. Quit being so foolish — speaking for others, trying to make predictions before the race even gets started…
I’ll be foolish. She’s toast.
What is really telling is that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign committee did not even send a congratulatory message to her on primary night according to national media reports.
That, according to one report means they will give only token (if that) financial support.
From the day after the election:
http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/232459-dill-summers-win-nominations-for-snowe-seat
“If you’re asking me if I want money from national Democrats, yes, I’d love some,” Dill said. “But without it, I’m still planning on winning — and I think I can win.”
From April
http://www.nrsc.org/2012/04/national-democrats-continue-giving-dill-cold-shoulder/
Speaking for MYSELF I said she wouldn’t get many votes, I know there are a few idiots. Since the primaries are over I’d say the race has begun.
What? No wise crack comments calling me a fool?
Typical cheesecake response: expect the worse in those you disagree with and the best you do agree with. If that fails, invent a new reality.
That’s your MO. Disagree with them then call them a fool.
Another typical cheesecake response: screech about a behavior and then engage in the exact same behavior.
This race will be between Angus and Charlie Summers with one of them not getting 40% in victory. Once Dill is exposed and Angus King’s awful record as Governor is exposed. Along with King’ living off of Maine Taxpayers from subsidies on the Electric Bills for many many years and him now living off of us on Wind Power which has been under scrutiny with questionable behavior he will be toast as well. Angus is only popular with Liberals nobody else can stand the guy, he like Baldy aren’t popular with folks who aren’t liberals and those living off of taxpayer bucks.
And so you agree that far right conservatives only win when there is a split vote.
Same way Baldacci won.
The differenceis that two liberals are splitting votes and there is only one conservative. Meaning, most want a liberal.
Nationally Gallup pegs self identified liberals at 18-19%. Self identified conservatives at twice that. Maine is an anomaly. The libs here have formed their own plantation.
Another great argument cheesecake. Cite national poll results and try to apply them to a liberal state such as Maine.
Did you read what I said? “Maine is an anomaly.”
What do you suppose that means? What a foolish response.
It has no relevance! In state-wide races, conservatives only win here when there are multiple liberal candidates splitting the votes. But yeah, good call bringing up some weird national poll when we’re talking about state races.
Angus King in 1994 won a split election vote for Governor. He only ended up with 35% of the vote in that election. Face it once Angus and Cynthia is exposed for the poor records they have and the nutcases they are , and they go against themselves fighting for the Lib vote they will tank. These 2 are lucky to be where they are at now Olympia got out. Mainers on their best day wouldn’t elect neither one because they know what a disasater these 2 are. Charlie Summers may be a weak candidate to Liberals but he is a heck of alot better than those 2 Ultra-Liberal Democrats are for Maine and our Country.
It’s not that Charlie is a Weak Candidated that concerns the Electorate,
it’s that he has a Weak Mind!
You mean like the failed Baldacii administration?
Gosh it sure is nice we have darkcat to tell us what everyone is thinking isn’t it? Just think of all the money we would save by not having an election. We just let darkcat tell us how everyone is going to vote.
Did I hit a nerve. For someone who claims to be a conservative your very defensive when your Liberal Hero’s like Nobama, King, Baldacci and Dill are being attacked for their awful record. You also get defensive when the Welfare Bums benefits are cut. The fact is your a Conservative or Republican in Name Only. You should go work for the Maine Democrat Party you sprout their talking points all the time. Independents don’t support the Dems views either. Those of us Independents sure as heck don’t support King or Dill. If they were the only ones on the ballot we would leave the space blank. Anyone who can attack LePage and Republicans for doing good work repairing the damage these stupid Liberals have done to our state are just as bad as the Democrats were in power. The fact that Liberals think we are that dumb to put them back in power so they can continue to pick our pocketbooks . So we can fund those folks who the Democrats buy votes from is kidding themselves. You better get with reality because 2012 is going to be a bad year for you Libs, 2010 is mild compare to what Liberals in office are going to see this year.
The Word is Out!
Charlie the Lockstep Monster , is just a Mindless Pawn !
He signed the Norquist Tax Hostage Pledge!
Cynthia is a free thinker? She’ll tell Harry Reid where to stick it?
And what is Mckernan living off from?
Do you live in a Conservative Bubble?
She’s sure to capture the Air Head vote.
If polled, North of Bangor, Dill would be in the single digits. After the sham, Quimby put on, with Ken Salazar and all (who lied about not being invited) Dill has no support in the Northern Region.
Charlie has more history helping small business, is not in favor of the Quimby National Park, will support the 2nd Amendment, has helped vets, and was himself a member of the military. None of these attributes Dill can say she ever tried.
Charlie the Lock Step Monster will do as he is told by those above him, as a Public Relations Officer in the Military he is well trained for the job!
Charlie is a servant of the people, he at least has a proven record of helping small business and veterans, and not a bought and paid for drone of Quimby and the green groups.
Charlie is a Servant to Grover Norquist!
He signed the “Devils Contract”!
LOL
She has zero chance of winning. Folks north of Augusta are angry with her on Gun Rights, her keeping on pushing for a National Park which is heavily opposed by folks in the 2nd District with towns close to the park VOTING NO on it. They are angry she is taking Roxanne Quimby bucks to keep the issue going even though it has no chance of happening. Her environmental views aren’t going to fly up here in the conservative 2nd District. Once her video of her jumping up and down on a Veteran’s Memorial Site and onto headstones of dead soldiers in a park in her State Senate District during a campaign for that seat last year it will be used as a campaign ad. Once someone does use it as campaign ad she is toast. The Video exists its been played on the local news. Angus King, Charlie Summers and Andrew Ian Dodge would be dumb not to use it as a campaign ad against her. It would create alot of outrage with Veteran’s Groups and Majority of Mainers it would also hurt the Dems because it would prove what most folks already know they are out of touch with most Mainers.
You can go on and on all you want, but it has nothing to do with the comment I responded to.
Can you post a link to that video! Now that Dill is a national candidate, it should go viral!

Thank you!

_____
You just lost my vote Cindy
It official, printed in the BDN, Cynthia Dill has a mind. She needs to take some lessons from the President on how to pander to voters to get herself elected.
She dare call the NRA a “special interest group”? What does she call Roxanne Quimby? Master?
The NRA isn’t a special interest group?
peachhorror, please read again and give it some thought..
Responsible hunting, target shooting, and personal protection is one thing. I own three guns myself and hunt. But the NRA called cops “jack-booted government thugs,” resists almost every effort at common sense regulations, resists any effort to regulate foolishness like armor piercing ammo and fully automatic weapons, and the list goes on. The NRA also is a tool for gun industry.
How many hunters need AK47’s? There needs to be common sense too.
First, “fully automatic weapons” have been fully regulated since 1934! This has nothing to do with the NRA.
Next: an AK47 is simply a semi-automatic rifle for which there are large quantities of inexpensive ammunition available. Have you ever even seen one (not a picture of one) much less fired one?
Next: Whose “common sense” do you propose to use in regulating firearms? Yours? Hillary’s? Obama’s? Sarah Brady’s?
Finally: why do anti gun zealots always start out with somehow claiming to be proponents of gun ownership “responsible hunting, target shooting and personal protection” before attacking the 2nd amendment or the strongest protector of that amendment – the NRA?
The 2nd amendment has absolutley NOTHING to do with hunting..To suggest it does shows your lack of understanding the Founding Fathers distrust of a strong central government with a standing army.It is there to ensure the protection of our other rights…I suggest you do some reading…
Thats right , however,
The NRA has become a solely owned subsidary of the Republican Party!
The Republicans Support the NRA and the NRA supports the Republicans. Its a Vote thing for the Republicans and the easy way for the NRA.
Not all Democrats have an anti gun agenda, Not all Republicans have a pro gun agenda. The NRA needs to lobby BOTH sides of the Political Spectrum in order to be considered a viable representative of its members, otherwise it is just a tool for the GOP for votes.
I got an endorsement Card the other day for Andre Cushing from the NRA.
You Know, Andre the Steal —-Not Andre the Seal!
Andre Cushing, Alec, the Republican Party and the NRA are as intertwined as the words of this sentence and I would have nothing to do with any of them!
One might say that the Republicans support that Concept of gun rights in the context that you speak of above, that the recent rewrite of the emergency Statute in the Maine Constitution restablishing the right to bare arms during an emergency.
This was done in lieu of the Katrina Disaster where law enforcement officers took guns from law abiding citizens due to the emergency. This was fundementally wrong.
The New Maine legislature consisting of the Republican majority rewrote the Statute to limit the authority of law enforcement officials from taking our guns in times of emergency. This was viewed as a win for the 2nd amendment rights. And the Republicans are our friends!
“However!”
Read the fine print , the Governor reserves the right to rescind all statutes in a Time of Emergency.
Thats right, your 2nd amendment rights to throw off an oppressive government are protected right up to the point that you actually need them!
Pretty slick aren’t they! They got your support for free!
You have no idea about gun laws. You are out of your depth discussing them.
I must agree that the NRA goes a bit far, but replace “gun” with “abortion” and I see the same rhetoric from NOW and the like.
No hunter, of course “needs” an AK-47. It’s not for my government to determine what I need or am allowed to have.
She is for a feasibility study of the idea. Nothing definite. If such a park was done, it could mean some much needed employment and revenue in the region. Snowmobiling probably wouldn’t be a problem. The one issue though is the hunting piece. I think that is a major stickler. But could it hurt to do a feasability study? Would 1% of the land up there be that much of a hunting burden? What if it could produce some much needed employment? What are the other gripes about the idea?
3.2 million acres that Quimby/Restore wants is not 1 % of the land !!
Tinserblic, the feasibility study is just a formality. IF it is allowed, the federal gov. will then quickly move forward with the national park. Because of that, a feasibility study would make it definite. For more facts from which you can draw your own informed conclusion, you can visit-
http://www.preservemainetraditions.com
There, you will learn the answers to your questions. Facts and truth.
Dill rails agaist money entering politics but she is just as guilty. In June 2011 when the vote against a park came up in the legislature she had not even heard of the issue ( her words in the ‘Forecaster’ December 1, 2001) by August she is proclaimed as one of the most vocal proponents. What happened in between? $12,000 from Roxanne Quimby to Dills leadership PAC. If one of her opponents did this she would be shouting it from the roof tops. Count me as a democrat that will not support her and will actively work against her.
Maines Mason Dixon Line!
I have spent a good portion of my life below it as well as above it. I can see where BOTH are coming from as land becomes more and more shut off for recreational uses. The sad thing about the “Mason Dixon Line” in Augusta is that those that are above it generally seem to think that those that are Generally below it want to take away their freedoms! Life was good when you could snowmobile and hunt on both yours and others land without ever seeing a posted sign.
Then came the Hoards!
And the signs went up on “theirs”!
The Ironic part about the Insanity of the Imaginary line is that those above it are beginning to engage in the same practices in spite of those who engaged in posting, all the while defending their “OWN” property rights. Whats Mine is Mine and Whats yours is Mine!
I see it every Hunting Season!
Heck! I have even engaged in it!
LOL
Such is the insanity!
It’s funny how those who own property see it as theirs and also see others as theirs unless it’s posted.
Enter the Idea of a “Public Park” — Not on “OUR” land claim those in Millinocket Area in a Scream! Somehow thinking that Paper company land is theirs!
Not” OUR” Snowmobile Trails!
One day those above the Mason Dixon Line will wake up to see that all that free land to use that was once paper company land will be gone! It was only an Illusion, bought with the trade off of having the public turn a blind eye to the deforestiztion and replanting of single species trees came the unconditional use of their forests. Once done , those forest’s now become a commodity subject to the next owners whims, and the illusion ends!
Wait a minute, it is happening as we speak, whats that?, Sappi stripped and ran? Whats that, Selling off all that Prime Waterfront Land to Plum Creek (Development Corp) to people from away?
—Free to put up their Own Posted signs?
Now in “spite” of those from “away” they are dead set against any “Public Land” !
Public Land that is Yours AND Mine, in effect , like what they enjoyed before the onslaught of the Hoards!
We can’t have that !
Dam—Liberal Socialists!
LOL
We want the ” illusion” back!
well lets hope all the flatlanders that have moved here don’t have her same mind set. the sign down on the bottom of the state says,, “the way life should be”.. i spose that’s the next thing that gets changed. maybe something like,, ” welcome to maine, the way massachusetts wants it”..
Webster is correct for once! Dill is an absolutely perfect example of the “progressive” wing of the Democrat party. In this one article she has managed to offend the majority of Maine voters. In the small polls I have seen Summers and King are running neck and neck with little Dill far, far behind (thankfully!)
Not progressive enough for me…why I left the Demopubican party–never belonged to the Repubocrat one, either.
Webster is a dull-witted fool and right wing toadie. He is low on brainpower and high on nonsense, like the LIES and MALARKEY about “voter fraud.” Gee, that really worked out didn’t it? Got CRUSHED on that one. Webster’s silly TeaPublicans are going to get dumped into the harbor come November.
Only in your dreams!
As for voter fraud: If all the little democrat voters are legal, why do democrats object to requiring a valid ID at the polls? Is it because it would violate the democrat motto; “vote early and often?”
And please: save the schoolyard recess name calling for those who appreciate such childish nonsense!
The Webster attack on Voter Fraud is a Smoke Screen to cover the “Election Fraud” !
The history of election fraud in Maine is Democrat legiscritter for life John Martin’s chief lackeys being caught in an Augusta closet with a box of uncounted ballots and sent to jail for it. I’m sure that was the last time the progressives ever committed voter fraud…or maybe they just got better at it.
Who needs Voter Fraud when you can commit Election Fraud!
You can’t use “ballots” for evidence if you can keep them from ever existing!
Kind of like the Murderer who stabbed his victim with an Isicyle!
Crazy Charlie, the poster child for taking from the poor and giving to the rich–the poster child of limiting voting for everyone but his friends, says this to be derogatory!?!?!
Um–there are still a few of us that believe it is right to help those less fortunate than ourselves and right to save a few wild places, believe that it is wrong to destroy our home planet and wrong to discriminate against those different from ourselves.
I have always been an independent voter and am not a fan of either major party–Dill was not my choice for the nomination but she will probably get my vote. My take is that she will do less damage than any of the other candidates.
When you went into the “crazy Charlie” bit you basically confirmed that what he said about Dill was right on the money. Thanks for the verification.
kc you have made my day.
Um–there are still a few of us that believe it is right to help those less fortunate than ourselves and right to save a few wild places, believe that it is wrong to destroy our home planet and wrong to discriminate against those different from ourselves.
Duh! It is really too bad they don’t pass out day-glo halos with saint hood so that those of us not so chosen can easily recognize the “few of us” saints that walk among us!
I would like to say good job to Maine democrats. Libby Mitchell was an awful choice from which we got Paul Lepage and from this awful choice we will get Charlie Summers. Imagine a Maine with Elliot Cutler and Matt Dunlap instead of these buffoons (lepage, summers, mitchell, and dill) but hey I guess party lines are more important than actually voting for qualified candidates that can actually do a good job for the people of Maine.
Shes apparently also not afraid to wear the Hillary Clinton pantsuits either. Maybe someone should tell her that shes not 65 years old?
Yeah, who cares about policy. When it comes to women, it’s all about the outfit!
Well you see, the word “also” in the post I wrote indicated that, in addition to the concerns I have about her proposed policies and crazy moon bat ideas shes also dressing like someone 25 years older than her. Other posters already took issue with her wacky positions on policy so I addressed the outfits. This woman and people like her are EXACTLY what is wrong with our country today. She is probably more familiar with the AARP womens clothing line than she is our Constitution. Now does that spell it out for you a little better?
You said what you said. Quit trying to step away from that.
I said what I said then explained what I said to a moon bat that doesnt understand common English. The only difficulty here is with you and your lack of comprehension. Im not taking back what I said, far from it. I just tried to explain it further since you apparently needed some help getting it. I see you still need that help, but Im done spoon-feeding it to you.
LOL you must have an AMAZING point if you have to resort to personal attacks. hahaha
Now you have neveeeerrrrrrr launched one of those have you?
Where did I “attack” you? You are the one who cannot fathom a simple post and in turn attempted to put words in my mouth. I appropriately chastized you for that attempt. Next time I wont bother trying to explain why I said what I said since you are too dense to get it anyways. Now you can get your panties out of your crack and go try to misrepresent someone elses post.
You tried to slam her for the clothes she wears. That’s it. Quit trying to pretend like you were saying something else. It’s here in black and white.
Actually I didnt attempt to slam her clothing, I DID slam her clothing. And I did so quite successfully. She dresses like an old woman and I correctly pointed that out. You were the one who tried to say I was “backing away” from that comment when I did no such thing. Thats called “misrepresentation” which is what I called you out for.
It goes to show that you are just a partisan hack. When it comes to women in politics, clothes are more important than the issues. That was your comment and now you’re trying to act like you were criticizing her for other things. First and foremost for you was the clothes and that’s ridiculous.
I’d like to see a picture of you in your Sunday best. It’s pretty easy sitting in front of your computer, basking in the green glow of anonymity, probably dressed in your pajamas, criticizing the appearance of someone who has the courage of her convictions.
Actually I dress quite well thank you. I know had I been Jon Stewart making fun of a conservatives poor choice in attire you’d have laughed right along with me, so your snarky attempt to accuse me of wearing pajamas during the daytime is about as meaningful as the rest of the garbage that comes out of moon bat mouths.
Oh please, let’s make a big deal about the woman’s clothes. Really?
He is pointing out how much of a wacko nutjob she is. Anyone who can dress 25 years older than she is and advocate for views that out of the mainstream for voters North of Southern Maine that has no chance of getting their support has real problems. She gave away a safe seat in the legislature to play with the big dogs. The problem is the big time is out of her league she needs to stay in the minors leagues (Double-A /Triple-A — State Senate) and sprout off the nonsense and have her tirades in Augusta . At least its locals that she is making a fool of herself with. Does Maine really need that embarrassment in Washington.
And all because she wears pant suits? Get real.
Take your blinders off. The fact is she is not ready to play in the big leagues. She is a joke even in the Minor Leagues (Augusta) . What has she done to earn the right to play with the big dogs. She is not a star in her own party , she is not even in leadership in Augusta. The fact is people in her own party shun her. They aren’t too thrilled about her as a candidate they wanted Matt Dunlap who has alot of experience. The fact that the Democrat Party and Democrat Senate Committee is not going to give money to her speaks volumes. The Maine Democrats are pulling for Angus King because they know Charlie Summers has a great chance of winning this election.
“They wanted Matt Dunlap” and yet he didn’t win the primary. Your claims are garbage, clearly.
Obviously you once again fail to comprehend a simple post. When he said “they” he was referring to the democrat leadership and not the voters. Much in the same way the national GOP leadership didnt want Gingrich, the DNC doesnt want Dill. The voters still have the final say of course, but by picking Dill all the voters did was ensure that either King or Summer will win the election.
Girl, get real. You’re so intellectually dishonest – it’s not even funny. Don’t try to slam me by making things up.
” The fact is people in her own party shun her. They aren’t too thrilled about her as a candidate they wanted Matt Dunlap who has alot of experience.”
PEOPLE IN HER OWN PARTY. Are you pretending that “people” is now a synonym for “leadership” now? Pathetic.
I appreciate a politician who tells us what he/she advocates. It helps me when I’m choosing who deserves my vote. The one who comes closet to thinking like me always gets my vote.
It is a long way from November. At the moment my bias is for Angus King. But the devil is in the details.
Yes, she speaks her vacant mind. Too bad she is pushing out dated economic recover concepts. That’s what you get putting another lawyer in the race, i.e., they talk well but don’t know what to say.
From the amount of coverage the BDN gives her vs coverage about King and Summers I’m guessing they will be supporting Dill for this Senate seat.
Haah. I don’t think so. This early coverage is a feint. I bet they endorse Angus making much of his “independence”.
I too assumed they would support Angus that’s why I’m suprised they haven’t given him more coverage. I think he stands to hurt Dill more than Summers as it is likely he will take more votes away from her than from Summers. This will be a difficult win for Dill unless she can get the majority of independents to vote for her.
Dill takes Quimby money and will push for the destruction of northern Maine.
She got there a little to late!
The Paper Companys already cut and ran!
LOL
This gherkin has soured most North of Bangor and will pick up much of the wacko liberal vote, but in the end conservatives will vote for Charlie Summers.
Charlie Summers has:
*the most experience in Washington
*the most experience helping small business-
*the most experience helping veterans-
*the most experience defending the 2nd Amendment-
The recurring key fact here is that Charlie Summers has more “experience” than Dill & King to get the job done..!
Summers for Senate 2012
*The Most Experiance Taking Orders From Superior Officers!
{{{Grover Babe!}}}
ANYBODY but Summers!
2012
Not—-
Summers has by “far” more experience than the other two and has done by “far” more for the citizens of Maine.
Maybe it would have been wise for the candidates to have taken a “listening tour” of Maine. We all think we are the average Mainer, most people we hang out with think like we do, we’re the norm.
The problem is I’m looking for someone who understands the problems, who has a open mind on issues (usually both sides are so blinded by their political bias they can’t come to a consensus). I’d like someone who’s willing to be educated and to educate us, the citizenry, to the pro’s and con’s of the issues and to possible solutions, or even resolutions to the problems we are facing as a country.
How about some national solutions instead of the immature political comment someone like Charlie Webster is always making.
I’m a Vietnam Vet. and a Democrat. I didn’t see Charlie Webster enlist like I did in the 60’s. I have a lot of Republican friends who aren’t tied into this hatefully diatribe of “we’re this, the other side is that.” Mainers’ are looking for solution, not middle-eastern tribal conflicts.
At this point Angus has my vote…., but I do have a open mind on who’s going to give concrete answers and to anyone who understands we all have a say in this country. It doesn’t belong to a political party, to an individual, it’s a nation of Democrats, Republicans, un-enrolled voters, non-voters…, as a matter of fact, our Constitution doesn’t say anything about “voters”, only that we have the right to vote. So, let’s get back to a government of – for (and) -by the people. Let’s make the 2012 election a civil event, not a political war.
Now Charlie, After your years in the State Senate and again as a party political appointee in DC are you saying you never got down in the “mud”? Backhanded stab at Charlie Webster above not withstanding.
After I left I got a lot of notes and letters from Republicans who said one of the things they liked about me was I never stab them in the back – if I was going to stab them I did it right in the chest looking them in the eye. Yes we fought for what we believed in, we got into the mud, but I didn’t force anyone into a corner with out an exit to face an agreeable solution. Some ran to a corner and slammed all exits in their blind rush to stake out that corner, but I never forced them there.
I spent eight years in the minority, four of them in leadership. Throughout we, Republicans and Democrats, while we may had disagreed on some issues, on matters of State, we sought and found agreements. We would get together at the end of the session and work things out. We followed that into the majority until Charlie Webster knocked off Senator Tom Perkins, of Blue Hill as minority leader. Charlie refused to attend such sessions stating he wasn’t interested in working things out. And those who know the inter-operation of any governing entity – you can not reach agreement with someone who doesn’t want to.
I never diatribe Republicans (I had too many family and friends in the fold). Most issues were not R’s vs. D’s. Most were North vs. South, Urban vs. Rural. But, rather I did or didn’t, the State and the country’s economy were growing at that time. It was a different era. Today, like other times in our history, we need to put the country…, the people to the forefront of attention. As adamant a Democrat as I am, I have crossed the political divide several times for whom I felt was the better person running.
CPPray, I just think it sad that King is accepting money from Quimby to !! So whos pocket is he in ??
@ CPPray, http://www.pressherald.com/news/campaign-backers-bucks-stop-in-maine_2012-05-20.html………http://www.pressherald.com/news/some-prominent-names-among-those-who-gave-to-candidates_2012-06-01.html…….Really don’t know if i can trust him !
How about an “open mind” on a “national solution” like a Maine Woods National Park? Not that open after all, eh Mr. Pray?
What part don’t you understand ? The people of Maine don’t want 3.2 million acres locked up so anyone living in Northern Maine will loose what jobs they have !
The Enviros has no open mind why because the voters in some Northern Maine towns have spoken loud and clear and they said NO. The Legislature already both houses with a Overwhelming Super Majority in both have said NO, Governors Lepage, King , Baldacci all have came out and said No, Business leaders, Sportsmen and Congressional Leaders except Pingree have said No. This park is DOA even Salazar has said its not likely. Congress won’t pass it in these economic times trust me any politician in Maine like Dill supports it is not getting elected. Because here in the 2nd District its not going to go over well any Environment Issue is not going to fly here because it is a very Conseravtive District. Maine is becoming more red (Conservative or more red (Conservative) and white/grey (Independent). The folks want a philosophic change from Extreme Liberalism they have seen how bad it is. Unless Mainers especially in the 2nd District have taken a stupid pill these views aren’t changing anytime soon.
What does a listening tour going to do what a waste of time, just like Governors wasting our time and money on having blue ribbon commissions. All it is talk and hot air that does nothing. What Mainers want is results and accomplishments. They haven’t had it from Augusta for 40 years under Democrats so why start now with a listening tour that accomplishes nothing. What Mainers want is JOBS!!! , LOWER SPENDING AND TAXES, NEW AND UPGRADED SAFE HIGHWAYS–such as EAST-WEST INTERSTATES/TURNPIKES!!!. What they don’t want is more party talking points and nonsense coming from these folks. Democrats always want to point fingers at other folks including working Mainers they want to put the blame for our problems on everyone else but them. If Democrats started to take responsibility for things and listened to everyone’s concerns maybe Mainers would look at them. But every chance they get they always want to hurt their fellow citizens so people they can appease voting blocks to keep them in office. Democrats need another wake up call this election by losing very badly from the President, Senate Race, Congressional Races, Gay Marriage II . all the way down to staying in the Minority losing even more seats in this election.
Dark Cat!
You don’t speak for what Mainers want! You speak for what YOU want!
I don’t even think that you ARE a Mainer!
…
Really last time I knew LePage was at 47% in the last poll taken and every poll taken on LePage Democrats polled worse than him in each and every poll. Why is that. Could it be because the Maine People who work are tired of having our pockets picked so those who don’t work and those who have ties to Liberal Politicans can live the good life. Liberals need to get their heads out of the trees and get with reality because November 6th is coming very quick. November 6th is predicted to be possibly a bad day for Liberals across the board. Well Democrats here in Maine haven’t done much to sway the the “meter” into their direction. I know alot of Liberals that are angry at this President and they don’t intend to vote for him in November. they also don’t like Gay Marriage either. Unless Democrats come up with decent economic plans they are going to get trounced in the next election.
Right Whatever You say Lib , I have lived in Maine (Madison) for 34 years proud of it!!. I think Mainers are more on the Republicans and Independents side and not Liberals side if they weren’t Dems would be in power. Who put Republicans in power us Independents HELLO!!!. Just because folks like you are losing their Welfare Handouts well that’s too bad. Mainers voted for JOBS IN 2010. They didn’t vote for Ultra-Radical Liberals because they have had enough of their garbage. We are tired for paying for everyone else. We are tired of giving our money for roads then have Baldacci say they have no money for roads and bridges (Where the heck the money go??). We know what is going on its going to Welfare and other Liberal Pet Projects. Well only folks like yourself think we are dumb enough to go back to it well get ready for November 6th because your not gonna like the results.
Dill was filmed in a video for her State Senate campaign jumping up and down on a granite headstone dedicated to the memory of Capt. John Duffy, who was lost when his plane went down during an observation mission in Vietnam in 1973. The memorial was dedicated to Duffy and “all prisoners of war and missing in action”. Is she so immature and simple minded that this act of disrespect means nothing to her? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plWYgHc7s9w
Incredible. Obviously she has no idea what people sacrificed to give her the rights she has. Here at the “Freedom Tree” she confirms she has no idea what it means.
Really? That’s what you think that show? Sigh/…
I’ll take that. Yes!!
Angus King just got my vote. Everytime she brings up this Park nonsense Dill just gets everybody all worked up when there is clearly no need to. The Park issue is dead. Leave it that way. Maybe in 20 years or so it might have value. But right now all it does is provide a wedge among Maine voter’s. And her position’s on the NRA are so extreme as to be seen by all but the most diehard of common sense voter’s are only one very short step from being neo-facist. Does she call for the enforcement of EXISTING GUN LAWS’S ? No. She goes out and calls for for an almost State-wide round up of every firearm that can be found, warrant or not, and subjecting lawful gunowner’s to a Inquisiton on their views of firearms. Cindy, stick to the issue’s, not the Party’s mantra chanting and verse. You are running to represent us all, NOT JUST THOSE WHO SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR PERSONAL POSITION’S. Running on personal issues and positions is what Paulie has done. Look where it’s getting him in the poll’s. Be smart and take the visible hint !
Gov. Paul LePage has a higher percentage of support in the latest poll I saw than the percentage of vote he got in the last election.
A vote for Angus King is not a vote for Maine. It’s vote for Angus King. Don’t be hoodwinked by the coy antics of the King. His self interest is legendary !
” His self interest is legendary ”
The GOP is not?
I’ll take one Carpet Bagger over a Legion of Thousands!
Edit; After all who didn’t root for Clint Eastwood, the lone gunman who played one side of corruption against the other in a Fistfull of Dollars!
LOL
Cynthia Dill is not my choice , However she does represent what Democratic Representation is all about. She does State quite clearly what her position is, only with that openess can a voter extend their voices and acknowledge the representation by their vote.
On the other hand the Republican Agenda is that of deciept and deception, do they come out and say that they want to “Take “money from the poor and working class and give it to the wealthy and corporations?? Do they say that their agenda is to drive wages into the cellar for their factories and buisnesses?
No, they hide behind the Common Denominator of Taxes! They sign foolish little pledges like the Norguist Pledges to make people think that they on their side— after all who doesn’t want to bring home more of the paycheck!
The trick is the Cap on Taxes Reductions, while the average man gets pennies the rich gets dollars!
Taxes are only one side of the equation , Spending on benefiits are the other side, why then dont they be truthfull and come out and sign little foolish pledges as to what they are really after? { Public safety Nets}
How far would they get if they signed pledges stating I ( Enter name) pledge to take away Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare , Unemployment , Public Unions,Ect , Ect, Ect,
Again they say they are for less taxes! But!
Why do they take on more liability that will in crease Taxes on the masses such as Landfills and Feasibility studies for Private Road Construction Companies?
Voted into office by the commonality of Taxes between the haves and the have nots, Once in Office , the truth becomes clearer yet still muddied by their deceit and deception. An all out assault on those benefits occurs under the darkness of cover. Fraud becomes the excuse and that cover, all the while witch hunts begin to show any possible corruption of the other side, their sworn enemy,
Those who enacted those safety nets! the Democrats!
For those who see thru the smoke and mirrors and still believe that it is their best interest and do believe that the ( Job Creators) should somehow be the protected species, let me ask you who will take up those losses that they inflict on us?
The Employers who make up Republican Party through the Chamber of Commerce
aren’t going to !
Why do you think that they want Right to Work Laws to “divde and conquer ” Unions?
Like the gubernatorial race, we have a crowded field. And once again I find myself wishing we had some sort of ranked voting in place. I do not want to send the least popular person to Washington just because we split the vote in 3 or more ways. *sigh*
Jeeze Louise, why are three choices a “crowded field?”
Is the world so black and white that we should have only two choices: chicken or fish?
How about ten candidates? And yes, let’s rank them as you vote: vote for NO ONE you do not want to be US Senator, and of those you DO want, mark first choice, second choice, etc.
Just as writers here have indicated their preferences. It worked in Portland (no, I do not live in or near Portland) mayoral race, it should be statewide law.
Otherwise, you get a 38%-er, like Baldacci or LePage, someone the majority DID NOT WANT.
When will we learn?
I’m not against multiple candidates in a race by any means, but anything above 2 choices is a crowded field in a simple plurality contest. We need real choices and a better voting system than “first past the post,” or we will always wind up with a possible LePage scenario.
Can’t decide where my vote goes. Dill’s a bit far to the left, but then, the Republicans of today are lining up with Hitler’s brownshirts, and King was awfully friendly with some very destructive corporate entities (remember the mercury spills in the Penobscot?). My family has owned guns in this country since, oh, 1630 or so, but I’m not a one-issue voter, and I find the current increase in silencers among Maine gun-owners very disturbing–the only reasons for a silencer are poaching and murder.
…And how about not wanting to disturb your neighbors when practicing/target shooting in your back yard?
Oh well! Your credibility went in the tank as soon as you invoked “Hitler’s Brownshirts!” I can see why you can’t decide where your vote should go!
Yes, to get so far and only to lose in the end….
“There’s just something so fundamentally American about national parks.” Thats a quote from Quimby ! There is nothing original about this woman !
There is no National Park in America next to a State Park and there’s no National Park that’s draw would be vistas of another Park.
“National” Parks are unique areas or regions of our country. Maine is a leader in the country in protecting unique areas and regions, lands of natural and public interests through our own Parks, public lands, and the Commission on Lands for Maine’s Future.
The problem here for Ms. Dill was her lack of respect and appreciation of how the people of the area felt on the issue. Any individual seeking public office who would show distain for a geographic region and its people, to imply because someone else, somewhere else want it – you, the people of the region, should accept what others want to do – isn’t going to gain too many supporters. In part, because no matter how someone may have felt on this issue, they wonder when its they turn – will she treat them the same.
Excuse me, Mr. Pray, but you had better check your facts. Redwoods NP and the state park of California are intertwined along many miles of their shared border.
Surprising that the “drone” would call attention to California at this time. California is nearly bankrupt, even with the vast areas of the great (what Quimby has instructed Dill to say) “economic engine” of National Parks. There ought to be some “fact checking” on California’s blissful economy, as well as other states who have high percentages of Federally owned land, and happen to ALSO be in dire financial straits, unless there is major industry in the state.
Land for Maine’s future is out of funds. And I don’t think our governor is about to put much $$$ into preserving natural areas.
{Maine is a leader in the country in protecting unique areas and regions, lands of natural and public interests through our own Parks, public lands, and the Commission on Lands for Maine’s Future.}
Maine isn’t even a “blip” on the screen!
Google Idaho!
Charlie Summer will be the next Senator from Maine, homosexuals will not be allow to marry and we will see the left in this state go CRAZY.
“Because it’s important to speak up for the things YOU believe in.” If she is pro-Obama, anti-gun, anti-NRA, pro-gun control, pro-park, and pro-social justice, she may as well resign. That type of politics will never gain a foothold in this state. I can’t believe someone with that mentality is running for public office.
Maine’s version of Dizzy Lizzy Warren. Has she claimed
to be a Native American yet?
For the record, Dill supports President Barack Obama and believes he has
done great things. Nonetheless, while Obama was dining with campaign
contributors at the Portland Museum of Art on March 30, Dill was across
the street in a “free speech zone” near OccupyMaine demonstrators.
Dill didn’t join in the drum-thumping Occupy demonstration, but she was
there to voice her own concerns about the corrupting influence of money
in politics.
That’s Dill-speak for I wasn’t invited.
An out of state civil rights lawyer. I can’t think of anyone better to represent the out of staters in Southern Maine.
Advocates of the 2nd Amendment who realize its importance need to become aware and spread the word that this candidate runs contrary to it’s belief and threatens the freedom and safety provided through its strength. A vote for her is to further lubricate the slippery slope for those who continually attack this amendment andthose who recognize its importance and relevance in today’s society. Ken
I just enjoy seeing the expressions on the faces of those in
the background holding Dill signs in the picture :) … lots of enthusiasm
there. Looks like there already in a pickle ;)
If Dill gets in all of us Mainers will be in a Pickle for sure!!!!
Dill will not get in. The Dems wanted their worst canidate to get elected in the primary (they got what they asked for) so there would be no interference with King. They didn’t want another Lepage / Mitchell fiasco. Now, I am not certain that Dill realizes all of this. My guess is that she truely believes she is the best person for the job.
Why is the AP taking the time to write this? Because they are print media’s answer to FAKE-News. This is right wing propaganda crapola. Dill is a progressive who cares about workers, fair taxation, healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, the environment, and the poor. In other words, she is for everything that JESUS LOVES and the anti-Christian TeaPublicans despise. It is amazing that these fake phony ultrahyprocrite TeaRadical right wingers do everything that makes Jesus want to vomit, and then they go around talking about how much they love Jesus. It is simply disgusting. But we can take comfort knowing that after they die, the right wingers find themselves very unpleasantly surprised when instead of gently floating upward, they go zooming straight down to a very definite close encounter with Lucifer’s boiling cauldron.
Please don’t put Jesus name in anything that Dill wants …
Gee! Thanks for the religous education. I am sure that many of us didn’t know that Jesus was a Progressive Socialist! The last sentence in your post really scares the H*ll out of me!
When you put religion into a Dill campain that scares the H*ll out of me to !
Amen!
(1) It is clear Ms. Dill does not see Ms. Quimby and her following as a special interest.
(2) A National Park is run by the federal government = big business.
(3) Preserve Maine Traditions supports conservation and expanding the state park system under state control. Read: local control by Maine people committed to Maine values.
(4) According to the Veterans Administration, the state has 100,000 to 200,000 veterans living in Maine; this is over 10% of the state. Ms. Dill clearly has a history of disrespect for those who serve.
(5) Many people called to duty are in the reserve components. Thus working people give up there lives to serve in the conflict when called and Ms. Dill (who disrespects the military) is asking for their vote.
(6) Ms. Dill is anti-NRA. Maine is a pro-hunting, pro-gun recreation state. Guns do not cause domestic violence yet Ms. Dill, a practicing attorney tries to tie these two issues together.
(7) Even this report (http://muskie.usm.maine.edu/justiceresearch/Publications/Adult/Domestic_Violence_and_Firearms.pdf) indicates the difficulty in connecting firearm ownership to domestic violence. Taken as a whole, the only possible way to resolve the issue in the world of Ms. Dill would be an all out ban on firearm ownership by citizens.
(8) Another Progressive (Socialist) in Washington DC is not what this nation needs and is not the window sticker we want advertising our great state.
(9) We encourage everyone to think carefully before supporting or voting for Ms. Dill.
(10) Preserve Maine Traditions – working to sustain traditional Maine values such as honesty, integrity, and good will towards our neighbors in addition to our rural outdoor heritage at work and play.
Great points, noparkforme! Dill would be a huge mistake for Maine for all the reasons you listed and more.
Amen!
http://www.asmainegoes.com/content/senate-candidate-cynthia-dill-mocks-those-autismaspergers
Dill will poll well in the south and Summers will poll well in the north. Angus will poll well statewide. Dill and King will split the moderate to liberal vote. Republicans will see this as a chance to pick up a Senate seat. Unlike two years ago Democrats and Independants won’t make that mistake twice. King will be our next Senator and LePage will seve just one term. Pingree will coast to a victory in the 1st. Michaud will have a harder time but without a spoiler in the race will be re-elected.
Put this lady , Angus and Charlie on a stage together … guess what…. she makes them look like JoJo’s .
The Dill…21%
Big Wind Scam King 37%
Summers 42%
Sorry Dems…Thankyou Angus!!!!
I wonder why she doesn’t wear dreadlocks?
The headline is a bit misleading… that is the part about “speaking her mind”. Notwithstanding, the delusional and unsavory Dill appears to have been propelled to stardom by legions of social Marxists, overwrought effeminates and sloth-like wards of the Nanny State. Her involvement in politics is apropos and in line with her current occupation, which we are told vies for notoriety as one of the oldest pursuits known to mankind. She is a wonderful choice for the Democrats, and in the intervening months Mainers will be entertained by an outpouring of avant-garde abstractions that advocate social justice, deficit spending and moral decline. Even so, liberals should be mindful that this kind of chicanery does little to buttress the argument for evolution.
What little is there doesn’t take long to speak.
Ms Dill’s comments sound exactly like the rest of the liberals. She must have acquired their book of “talking points”. Disgusting.
It is funny to see the Republican party complaining about extremism after the underhanded way they got the Sadist Paul Lepage elected. Lepage is so bad even the Republican establishment can’t make him act civilized.
the BDN celebrates a liberal candidate for speaking her mind, but rips conservatives when they do the same. Just another example of liberal media being biased and not telling a fair, honest story for everyone.
““There’s not a lot to lose for standing for what you believe in when you’re the underdog. I don’t see what the gain is to try to please everyone, pandering to whichever way the wind blows,” she said.”
And the two issues she chooses to stand up for are gun control and the federal park????????? Is she really that numb or is the BDN trying to sabotage her?
