BELFAST, Maine — More than 2,000 bicyclists are finishing up a 180-mile three-day ride across Maine to raise money for the American Lung Association.
A record number of bicyclists are taking part in this year’s Trek Across Maine, which began Friday at the Sunday River ski resort in Newry and ends Sunday in Belfast.
This year’s fundraising goal is $2 million.
The event is now in its 28th year. Organizers say riders this year came from 27 states and ranged in age from 8 to 80.

Stay off Rt 3 today.
And I rode as well, 180 miles. Bicyclists have the same rights to the road as motorists do; why don’t you stay off Rt 3 —hole, and go ride your 4-wheeler, snowmobile, pick-up truck, or whatever you ‘ride’- cuz I’m pretty certain it ain’t a bicycle.
I was on Rte. 3 today…riding in the Trek Across Maine. Wonderful ride, lots of money raised for a great cause, and a well-organized event again this year.
