SACO, Maine — A fight in a downtown street early Sunday morning led to three men being charged with assault, according to police.

Deputy Chief Jeff Holland said the trouble started when David Dumont, 26, of Old Orchard Beach went to an ex-girlfriend’s house on Vernon Street and discovered another man, who Holland said was the woman’s roommate, asleep in her bed.

Holland said Dumont pulled the woman’s roommate out of the room, dragged him outside and started kicking him in the face.

Dumont eventually left the scene but returned with two friends, Beau King, 27, of Dayton and Eric Coggshall, 22, of Wells and kicked the woman’s door in, according to Holland.

The man who Dumont initially assaulted wound up grabbing a rifle and pointing it at Dumont and his accomplices, Holland said. The fight wound up spilling into the street.

The victim, who was not charged with any crime, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, Holland said, while Dumont, King and Coggshall were all summoned for assault but not arrested.
