ORONO – Elaine “Laney” Caroline (Connors) Casey, 84, passed away June 16, 2012, surrounded by her loving partner of 27 years, Robert A. Watson and her six devoted children, at her lifelong home in Orono. She was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Old Town, the only child of Clement D. and Edith V. (Smith) Connors.
Laney was a graduate of Orono High School and attended the University of Maine, Orono. She was employed for many years and retired from Hannaford supermarket in July 1992. She was a past member of St. Mary’s Parish, Orono, and a member of Daughter’s of Isabella. The greatest joy of her life was raising her six children, and spending time with them and their families whenever possible. Some of her favorite pastimes included playing cards, long car rides, the ocean, camp, various crafts, holiday decorating, bird watching and antiquing. Laney was known to all as a very loving, generous and selfless person. She had a wonderful sense of humor and deeply enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
Laney is survived by her loving partner, Robert A. Watson; daughters, Colleen Magaw and husband, Tim, of Hampden, Kerry Garland and her husband, Jim, of Orono, Candy Elsemore of Otis, Kelly Wyman of Orono, and Kate Drouin and husband, John, of Waltham; son, Colby Casey, and wife, Terri, of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Kristen, Casey, Amy, Ryan, Ragan, Kevin, Emily, Derek, Libby, Joshua, Adam and Andy; seven great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Robert K. Watson and wife, Christine, Marion Bagley and husband, Harvey, Mark Watson and wife, Edith, Rosemarie Watson and friend, Martin Dore, Roderick Watson and Chris Watson and wife, Hadassah; 10 stepgrandchildren, 17 great-stepgrandchildren; and her lifelong best friends, Aunt Margie Seegar, Polly Butler and Muriel Doucette. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth.
