PORTLAND, Maine — A Livermore Falls man waived indictment and pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to theft of public money.
Robert B. Hutton, 58, admitted stealing more than $60,000 in Social Security disability benefits, according to court documents.
He was released on personal recognizance bail.
A sentencing date was set for Sept. 24.
Hutton claimed in 1999 and in 2006 that he was unable to work as a truck driver because of his physical condition. In June 2010, Hutton reported to the Social Security Administration that he was not receiving any income.
An investigation revealed that Hutton was paid $24,975 in 2008, $28,175 in 2009 and $10,450 through April 2010 by a Jay trucking company for his work as a driver, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Hutton’s work activities made him ineligible for the Social Security disability benefits he received.
Hutton faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He also is expected to be ordered to repay the disability benefits he received illegally.

Love it. Would be nice to see higher bounties for people sending videos of people carrying heavy loads or reroofing their houses, if their disability proscribed it.
This type of fraud needs to be found and cut down right away.. People on disability are able to work but not work to that extent.. Maybe have a small pt job making 50 60 a week or something just something to do but carrying roofing driving trucks etc. etc.. Maybe a Walmart greeter or something would be okay for a couple hours a week.. I am on disability and i have a class a and i know with my issues i cant drive again.. Heck i couldn’t even be a Walmart greeter.. But there are others that could handle this type of job.. Having the job is not really to supplement the income they receive but just something to do, some reason to get out of the house.. If i am not mistaken I believe people on disability depending on the disability we are able to earn 800 a month gross.. They even have agencies that send a bus and pick people up at their homes and bring them to work on a assembly line where they put things together or pack boxes or some little menial job to help out different businesses in the area.. But they make maybe 100 a month gross.. It teaches people with disabilities different tasks.. How to handle a job etc etc.. But this is plain wrong and i wish these people would all get caught it would free up a lot of money for the disability program.. Fraud sucks and it hurts others.. Plain and simple..
We have one right here in my hometown that was in jail for 8 months and collecting disabilty payments and is still working under the table since he got out of jail. Harley motorcycles 200,000.00 home 4 wheelers. Oh yup ! scamming the system every day. and up on a ladder just about everyday but of course HE IS DISABLED.
I know of a guy up in Lee, that has been collecting disability for many years now. His wife also collects as his caregiver. She was working at a convenience store but quit because it brought down the total of Disability that they were recieving. The reason for this person’s disability is his back, which he has NEVER had surgery on( as I have, and have been turned down for disability) He removes engines from cars, does brake jobs and has done sheetrocking jobs to make extra money on the side..Nothing makes me angrier than when i see able bodied people getting a free ride while those that truly need the help, getting shut down by the Social Security Admin.
One more down. Many Many more to go.
Wow, he got both.
I get treated like a mentally disabled person. Had important things taken away, but considered coherent enough, allowed, and expected to drive back and forth across the state by the same person, with no help from the judicial system yet, and I can’t get either disability, no doctor will sign for it, or a job….. :/
