CARIBOU, Maine — A Caribou woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening after a two-car crash on Thursday in Caribou.
Caribou Police Officer Jay Trainer said that the accident took place just before 2:45 p.m. on a section of U.S. Route 1 known locally as the Caribou Road.
According to Trainer, Linda Theriault, 54, was northbound in her car, a 1997 Ford. She stopped in the roadway to turn into a driveway.
A second vehicle that was following her swerved into the breakdown lane to maneuver around her car.
A third vehicle, a 2007 Ford Taurus driven by Edmond Bernier, 64, of Frenchville, came up behind Theriault.
Trainer said that Bernier could not stop in time and hit the back of Theriault’s car.
Bernier was accompanied by a passenger, 61-year-old Alberta Bernier, also of Frenchville.
All of the individuals were wearing seat belts, according to Trainer.
The Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department also responded to the accident, and Theriault was taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou. Trainer said that her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
The Berniers did not require medical treatment.
Trainer was assisted at the scene by Caribou Police Officer Doug Bell.
No charges are expected.
Both vehicles appeared to have been totaled, Trainer said Thursday evening.

Holy potato! Another one! Let’s keep safe out there, citizens. Your families love you.
Could not stop in time, or did not?
With all these rear enders, I will put off my trip to that area.
A third vehicle, a 2007 Ford Taurus driven by Edmond Bernier, 64, of Frenchville, I know these people. This was their second accident in 24 hours. The fisrt one was with their car and the second time was with a rental car. Edmond was driving both times.
My wife and I live approx 150 ft from the accident site and I can verify that most of the traffic traveling on rt.1 drive too fast and donot observe distance per speed of vehicle following. What is needed is to have lower speed limiit in that area(45mph) or traffic monitoring by police. Its time that people start slowing down and watching for vehicles turning. Break down lanes are notpassing lanes!!
