BANGOR, Maine — Someone called police at around 8:15 p.m. Thursday to say a man at Shaw’s supermarket “was sitting on the steps with only a shirt on,” Bangor police Sgt. Ed Potter said Friday.

When Officer Jason Linkletter arrived, he found Roland Devoe, 48, of Brewer intoxicated in a bathroom stall inside the Main Street grocery store, the sergeant said.

Officer David Farrar had given Devoe a written trespass warning on June 3 barring him from Shaw’s, so he was arrested by Linkletter for criminal trespassing.

Potter said it couldn’t be proved that Devoe had been pantless outside the store.

Devoe was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Friday morning, Potter said.

Devoe has three convictions for disorderly conduct in the last year, all which sent him to jail for between two to five days each, and two counts of violating conditions of his release, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. Judges keep spanking him on the hand, maybe just maybe he’ll learn his lesson some day.NOT.

  2. Must be reassuring that the PD are there when you need a safe place to sleep it off and a hot breakfast.

    1.  This is what I came to say , you beat me to it !  I bow down to your superior humor skills.

      1. LOL! No superior skills here just apparently read the article before you…..You can get the jump next time…..

        1. You are too humble Pab….LOL.. Tinkersville bound next weekend….It wont be the same again..

  3. When Shaws was contemplating building a new store in the area, city gov. never hesitated and took a number of businesses and residential properties by imminent domain, including Perrys’ Restaurant a successful business spanning 2 generations of owners.  This is PROGRESS?

    1. It’s  “Eminent domain” imminent means “soon” or “immediately.”

I also believe that Perry’s sold directly to the land purchasing company, not to the city.  I remember that the city threatened to take the land, BUT I don’t think they actually did.

I am surprised the citizens of the USA are not in revolt.  The idea that a municiple entity could seize privately owned property and transfer ownership to another private party REEKS of fascism.  Dictators in banana republics do this.. not a government “by the people.”

Thank, I typed emminent and spell check was convinced that I was wrong. No wonder most young folks can’t spell kat correctly. Regarding the cause and ultimate transfer of the property, doesn’t matter the end result was the same. No more fried clams. So it seems that we agree and Microsoft doesn’t know everything “emminent” is tagged again. Subject: [bdn] Re: Report of man with no pants leads to arrest at Bangor supermarket

  4. How is this against the law? Don’t most stores have signs that say, “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service?”

Where does it say anything about (no) pants???? ;-)

  6. FREEZE! UP AGAINST THE WALL! FEET BACK!  SPREAD EM!  WELL….. MAYBE NOT SPREAD EM!

  7. OOhhh, the man with the crooked nose. Hope that is the only crooked thing these poor spectators had to see….eehhh!

    1. Lets start a colection to help him fix that. I’m sure it makes his life hard, don’t you agree

  8. The point of the report being made is he was trying to take a dump on the steps that go from main st to shaws parking lot lol

  9. There is a sign right in front of the laundry right beside Shaws that says, “Drop Your Pants Here.”  Guess he took it too literally.

  10. Why is this the #1 story on the BDN? Someone should have just given the man a pair of pants and let him be on his way.
