MANCHESTER, N.H. — Federal prosecutors say a Gorham, Maine, couple have been sentenced in New Hampshire for stealing credit cards and personal and corporate checks in a three-state crime spree.

The U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Concord, N.H., says 49-year-old Donald James and his wife, 45-year-old Jennifer Harris James, admitted using the stolen checks and credit cards to obtain cash and property to feed their heroin addictions. In all, the losses amounted to more than $48,000.

Prosecutors said the thefts began in Maine in January 2011, but later spread to New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

At Friday’s hearing, Donald James was sentenced to 41 months in prison. His wife was sentenced to 24 months.

  1. 41 months and 24 months?? Seems like a low jail time amount for stealing what sounds to be a number of things from people! They will get out and do it all over again Im sure

    1. Both should get the same amount of time… Female gets less time??/ But they say there is a war on women….HMMMMM… I dont think so…

      1. I really didnt think of that when I read this that is a good point!! If I did something the same as my boyfriend or male friend I would assume that I would get the same amount of time unless he had a gun and I didnt or something like that. I am female and I do not think this is fair!!

    1. He sounded angry towards you, but hey at least he blocked out the part that would have been censored.

  2. Why so little jail time for both of them?  Wouldn’t something to this extent warrant longer jail time or because they may have been on drugs part of the time some how make them not as responsible?  They are definitely old enough to know better!  But, I do wish them the best of luck and maybe jail is what they will need to kick this habit if they have not done so already…

  3. The difference in time each got might have to do if one already had issues with the laws and the other didn’t..
My question is why didn’t they just ask our government for some of the Herion from afganistan, they probably should have some sort of program for the poor.  would have saved all this trouble.
