BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Pride Festival will be held Saturday in West Market Square and feature a commitment ceremony for couples.

The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a parade from the waterfront to downtown.

The festival itself, sponsored by the Bridge Alliance, will be held from noon to 8 p.m. with live music and speakers throughout the afternoon in West Market Square.

A commitment ceremony for all couples will be conducted at 2 p.m.

The festival will conclude with a dance and gathering at 6:30 p.m. for the under-21 crowd.

The Bridge Alliance was founded five years ago. It grew out of Northern Maine Pride, which for more than a decade sponsored the gay pride parade in Bangor. Since its founding four years ago, the Bridge Alliance has offered monthly dances, a prom and events for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender families, such as Halloween and Christmas parties.

  1. Thanks for letting us know when and where the parade will be incase some want to avoid it, traffic and all.

  2. Great idea incorporating the commitment ceremony. My partner and I will definitely be there

    1. Why wouldn’t they be? This isn’t a Tea Party rally you know, there will be no discriminating.

      1. Excellent answer, Matt!  Thank  you for  pointing out the TP’s idiocy.  They need to be lambasted every chance one gets.

        1. I’m a Staight Catholic for Marriage Equality but most importantly equality in general. The TP is staining this Country with negativity. Not everyone cares ONLY about Guns, Money and the White Race.

      2.  While I am not a Tea party member I think someone should point out that the GLT discriminates against any group who does not believe the way they do. What woudl these same folks say about say a KKK pride parade? This is America say what you want we are free. Remember that when you who preach tolerance and acceptance agree to ban things and outlaw that you do not agree with.

That said more power to them. As a Jew I understand oppression I have family that was killed for simply being what they where. I support everybody right to be who they wish to be just as long as they do the SAME in kind..

        1. “GLT discriminates against any group who does not believe the way they do” The same can be said about Republicans, Democrats, Catholics, Protestants, Pentecosts, etc…
