ELLSWORTH, Maine — In the wake of his arrest last week on drug trafficking charges, a well-known local businessman is stepping down from his position as chairman of the local YMCA.
Patrick C. Jordan, 43, president of local construction firm R.F. Jordan & Sons, was arrested June 20 after police say he bought dozens of oxycodone pills from a woman in the parking lot of a High Street motel. Police received a tip in advance of the alleged transaction and stopped and searched Jordan’s pickup truck after Jordan and the woman, Julie Edwards, parted company.
According to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, police found in the truck 87 30-milligram oxycodone tablets, which have a total value of $3,500, and $4,495 in cash, which they believe is the proceeds from the sale of drugs.
Jordan and Edwards, 47, each were arrested on charges of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, a class B felony that could result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Jordan and Edwards each bailed out of Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth later that same day.
Jordan has been a well-respected member of Ellsworth’s business community for several years. In 2006, under his leadership, R.F. Jordan & Sons received the Top Drawer Award from the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce. In 2009, Jordan and his wife gave $100,000 to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth to put toward construction of its new emergency care facility.
R.F. Jordan & Sons employs approximately 60 people, according to the firm’s website. The company, which Jordan began running in the 1990s, was founded by his father. In May, it was selected to lead the removal of the Great Works dam in Old Town, which got under way earlier this month and is expected to wrap up in November.
In a statement released Tuesday by local attorney Peter Roy, who is representing Jordan, R.F. Jordan & Sons indicated that Jordan is stepping down from the board of directors of the James Russell Wiggins Downeast Family YMCA but will continue to support the organization.
The statement indicates that Jordan plans to continue participating in business and charitable activities in the Ellsworth area and that the firm’s owner and employees “have full faith in the leadership and guidance of Pat Jordan.”
The statement concludes: “There is no doubt that this entire unfortunate episode will be satisfactorily resolved.”
According to MDEA, Jordan is scheduled to make his first appearance in Hancock County Superior Court on the trafficking charge on Sept. 18, 2012.

“Businessman” resigns from Y board after drug deal…Remember all those comments about “Firefighter” from Florida and everyone flipping out about him being referred to as a firefighter not just a drug dealer. Guess if your from Maine its o.k. to keep your title when your dealing in drugs. Maybe should just say drug dealer steps down from local YMCA.
Well I would like to see the report that he was dealing the drugs. Again, All that I see is he was buying. Not a smart move by no means but he wasnt the dealer. Why is the woman who was dealing the drugs getting off so easy?
I guess I was referring to the fact that he was involved in a drug deal…not sure what he was going to do with them after he received them…sounds like they were valuable on the streets though.
Yes it does, Thats not pocket change to most of us. I am sure he is wishing he didnt buy them now. Its a shame, someone who obviously has done so much for many charities and the local Ymca etc. You will find that is why this has become so public. I get the impression from the report that he had a dealer that didnt mind *giving him up*. Makes me wonder how many more names she gave up to get out of her own conviction. It could turn out to be many more in the future. I feel that she should be prosecuted as well. I dont know how true this is but they didnt even list her bail. Mr. Jordans was listed but not hers. I just found that curious.
“but they didnt even list her bail. Mr. Jordans was listed but not hers. ”
You R E A L L Y need to work on your reading comprehension.
The original report that I read clearly stated that Mr. Jordans Bail was 1,000 dollars. And that Ms. Edwards bail amount was not available. Obviously it is now, so I believe, that I read quite clearly.
June 21 Bangor Daily News
“Jordan and Edwards, 47, each were arrested on charges of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, a class B felony that could result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Jordan and Edwards each bailed out of Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth later that same day.”
Neither bail amount is listed, just that they were both bailed.
it was listed….both bailed out at 1000.00 even though Edwards was out on a prior drug charge…..nice work Ellsworth court…..keep up the good work…..
Jemileesmom, I was speaking of the original report dated June 21 by the Bangor Daily news. Thanks for the info though.
it sounds like he may have a personal addiction… apparently, he isn’t in need of that kind of money… or is he ? naw… Don’t get the feeling that money is the motivation here.. for her perhaps, but not for him… we’ll have to wait and see how it shakes out
because they found almost 5,000 dollars on him in cash makes it look like he is making money from it.
Their intention is to paint him as a dealer so they can confiscate his cash.
MDEA does an outstanding job of overstating the significance of 3 gram heroin busts. If they weren’t so adept at PR hype, the unit would be disbanded for uselessness.
Anytime LEO find someone possessing cash in the amount of $5,000 or more, that cash is subject to confiscation and forfeiture with no other probable cause necessary.
Probably because she flipped.
Wow you read what you want to read don’t you?!? Here’s the part where he’s dealing drugs:
“Jordan and Edwards, 47, each were arrested on charges of unlawful _trafficking_ in scheduled drugs”
Heres the part where she doesn’t get off so easy:
“Jordan _and_ Edwards, 47, _each_ were arrested on charges of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs”
Glad I could help.
that still don’t make him a dealer. which i think the law is wrong there because of the count that he had the law say he is a dealer but i dont know were it say that he was selling them or anyone coming forward saying they were buying from him .Can we say jealously people!!!! because he is so successful
The original report dated June 21 in the Bangor Daily News clearly states that Patrick Met with Julie Edwards at a local motel which turned out to be Jaspers. It also clearly states that he Purchased the oxy’s. Julie Edwards sold the oxy’s to Patrick Jordan in the parking lot of Jaspers Motel. The MDEA already knew that they were meeting there. And it also states the Patrick was bailed with an unsecured bail amount of 1000.00 and that Ms. Edwards bail was not available at that time. It can be read by all right here on the bdn site. So that doesnt make him the dealer to me either.
You may read the original report dated June 21 Bangor Daily News. Clearly stating that he purchased the drug. And clearly stated about their bail. So yes I can read, and apparently I read ALL the reports.
well reading the local paper it makes it sound like she was arrested in the article but when you read the police stuff where arrests are listed she is nowhere to be found….. I’ve seen this happen before…..
Finally, someone else notices that!!! All these reports are public record and I have done a little homework! I cannot even find that Julie Edwards was arrested during this incident! There was no arrest, from what I can see. She was arrested a few weeks ago for trafficking, and was on bail BUT she was not arrested on this incident, only Patrick was. I have questioned twice to authorities and I didnt get anywhere! So if anyone else wants to give it a whirl let me know the outcome. I have a feeling that I already know.
If your in possession of at least 8oomg without a prescription that is trafficking. Most people do not have that with a prescription.
Thank you Randy, Someone else told me that as well. They claimed that it was a trafficking charge because of the amount he purchased.
I took 800mg of advil this morning. 800mg of what is considered trafficking?
Liver killer.
Actually I take the same as you all the time. I dont actually know what a normal dose of Oxy’s would be though. I am sure someone will say what the normal mg dosage amount would be.
It’s quite low 2.5-15mg.

They assume he was making money from the drugs because they also found 4,995 dollars in cash on him at the time. Doesn’t mean he was dealing but does not look good for him either.
After all I have read I believe this man I would like to believe that he has an addiction ~ and that is no excuse. When he had his OUI he should have turned in his resignation then. No one is disputing the fact that he has contributed many donations to this community, but he did commit a crime. I also believe that there are more layers to this story that will surface. The missing piece to this story however is that if this is indeed an addiction, now that he has been caught, why isn’t he in a rehab facility? The fact that he is not unfortunately makes me think that there is much more to this story. I do not know this man and have never met him but we must all remember that he has a family and blaming and name calling does not help anyone.
why such the long face? doesnt he know he is suppose to smile?
just goes to show people that addiction can happen to anyone ,despite their level of success or failure in life.
bet he aint well RESPECTED anymore…….
Now he can run for congressman.
I feel bad for mr green Bangors old mayor… His friends dropped him like a hot potato.. choose your friends wisely
“his friends”. That is just it, he didn’t have any.
He has friends in high places, and he’s a republican. That means he’s a hypocrite who will get off on this while being lauded as such an outstanding citizen. Just like Limbaugh and his drugs!
Stereotype much. Becasue Dems don’t have friends in high places and get away with stuff. You mention Rush, I’ll throw you a name, Clinton. Read the Starr report if you can stomach it.
You saying republicans are not as great as democrats, hate to differ with you democrats are crooks
This guy could easily turn this whole negative into a positive. My bet, if he has the brains, which by reading the companies resume, he does. He will get himself the help he needs and move on stronger than before.
I agree with you 100%…. even if his addiction came about due to a bad back, like it has been speculated, hopefully he will use this as a wake-up call and get the help he needs to get himself and his life back on track.
Here is Downeast Family YMCA’s Mission statement: ” To build strong communities, families and individuals by
fostering respect and promoting a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”……Does anyone think Mr. Jordan meets or has met the mission statement for as long as he served on the board….NOT ME….what kind of message did all these young impressionable children receive from this mess? not too good I would assume. I think it’s time to dig deeper into the management staff @ the YMCA and see what else is going on there, and clean some more house….Last year it was the old pervert playing with himself in he shower area with all those little boys in there…that one got buried too, and not many paying customers knew about that one…..Don’t even get me going on the camp counselors that were let go two years ago…..enough said
Well, with a name like ellsworth15, you should start a citizen task force and begin the charge. Why not? Oh I know, because tomorrow this will be yesterdays news and nobody will care.
In the Y’s defense regarding MR. Jordan, the board or Mgt probably wouldn’t have any idea if he was addicted to something.
How did you know that, I am already involved in cleaning up the scumbag drug dealers around here……and if your and Ellsworth resident, there is more going on here than you think, wake up!
Well of course there is more going on here. Do you actually think that Mr. Jordan is the only business man that is on some kind of illegal drug??? I would say NOPE!
Wow, I didnt know about alot of that. You are correct, This accusations do not say anything positive about our YMCA.
This title needs to be changed. Just cuz this man throws a little money around he’s a saint? That gentleman from Florida only risked his life in Iraq as a marine before becoming a firefighter and everyone crucified him. Put up a huge stink because he wasn’t called a drug dealer. It’s actions like this that make our judicial system a joke. This train of thought has been accepted and it’s not right.
ooops
Under the federal sentencing guidelines, a “drug trafficking offense”
as “an offense under federal, state, or local law that prohibits the
manufacture, import, export, distribution, or dispensing of a controlled
substance (or a counterfeit substance) or the possession of a
controlled substance (or a counterfeit substance) with intent to
manufacture, import, export, distribute, or dispense.” U.S.S.G. §
2L1.2(b)(1),
he won’t serve a day… “There is no doubt that this entire unfortunate episode will be satisfactorily resolved.”
Yeah and Jordan will “get clean” and donate or build local drug rehab non-profits.
I would hope he would resign…
wow
If he was dealing drugs how could he have both the cash from drug proceeds AND the pills. I would think if your the dealer and the transaction is over you would have the cash and the buyer would have the pills???? I don’t know but there is more to this story.
I wonder how many pharmacy robberies it took to make this deal happen?
It doesn’t make since that the dealer turned on a buyer. Usually, the MDEA and other law enforcement want the suppliers. Buyers/users are little fish in the big pond.
Update, WABI just reported that a third person was arrested. The story is only getting better.
