AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine residents can now renew their vehicle registrations on their mobile devices.

The secretary of state’s office says the new upgrade to the Rapid Renewal system includes a design that automatically reformats to work on any screen size. Users can renew through Rapid Renewal on smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop computers.

Rapid Renewal is currently offered in 161 cities and towns from York County to Aroostook County, with populations ranging from Glenwood Plantation’s two residents to more than 64,000 in Portland.

Through Rapid Renewal, residents can renew their vehicle registrations 24 hours a day, seven days a week and pay their municipal excise taxes in one simple online transaction.

The website is www.Maine.gov/vehicle.

    1.  If you count all the unorganized T-R’s, a little over 900.  If you only count those with actual population somewhere around 500 or so.

22 cities, 432 towns, 34 plantations, 3 reservations.  I’m surprised that as many as 22 are classified as cities.   :)

    3. A couple of sources showed a little difference in numbers…16 Counties, approx. 22 Cities, 435 Towns, 33 Plantations, 424 Unorganized Townships, and 3 Indian Reservations……one link referenced 500 Municipalities in our state so out of all probably the 500 Municipalities would be the best number that may/should provide office services for residents……
