BELFAST, Maine — A local man who ran into the woods to elude being nabbed by police earlier this week was arrested after allegedly fighting and even headbutting officers.
Police heard a report late Monday night that Michael Ripley, 21, of Belfast, was intoxicated — which would be against his conditions of probation from a previous offense, according to Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department.
Police went to his Piper Stream mobile home to check it out, and when they arrived, Ripley ran out the door and into the woods. Officials called Maine State Police for backup, and Trooper Steven Hills and his dog, Lola, arrived at the scene.
Lola found Ripley, who struggled with police when they tried to bring him out of the woods, McFadden said. When he was put into handcuffs and placed in the police cruiser, Ripley allegedly tried to headbutt an officer and kick another officer.
He was arrested and charged with assault on an officer and refusal to submit to arrest or detention. Ripley was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast, where he was booked on the charges.
