PORTLAND, Maine — Eepybird, aka the “Coke and Mentos guys,” helped kick off the Portland Performing Arts Festival on Thursday evening.

The Coke and Mentos guys, Fritz Grobe and Steven Voltz, performed their Extreme Diet Coke and Mentos Experiments in Monument Square. The performance involved over 100 bottles of soda and over 600 Mentos candies.

The four-day festival will include many Maine performers, among other artists, and runs alongside Port Fringe, a fringe festival which runs until July 1.

There are nearly 80 performances scheduled this week. For a full list of all performances, visit the festival website and visit the Fringe site. Performances are offered for both children and adults; be sure to check listings for age-appropriateness. A pass for the entire event is $125; individuals days and events start at $10 and go up to $50.
