BANGOR – Louise H. Evans, 89, died peacefully June 29, 2012, with her family by her side at a local nursing home. She was born May 20, 1923, in Elmira, N.Y., the daughter of Oswald J. and Mathilda (Gorges) Woeppel.
Louise was a graduate of New Rochelle College in New York, and enjoyed swimming and painting. She had many academic interests, art, music, reading and crossword puzzles, all wrapped around a military wife’s responsibilities raising seven children. Louise was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother.
Louise is survived by seven children, Gerald Grigsby and his wife, Susan, of Orono, Mary Lee Grigsby of Burlington, Vt., Ann Martin and her husband, Fred, of Montour Falls, N.Y., Joyce Robertson of Burlington, Vt., Mark Evans of Waldo, David Evans of Washington, D.C., and Tom Evans and his wife, Marilyn, of Lafayette, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Brian Grigsby and his wife, Chris, Stephen Grigsby, Leanne Grigsby, Jennifer and John Joseph, Lori and Tracy Evans, and Cullen Robertson; two great-grandsons, Edward Francis Grigsby and James Gerald Grigsby; two sisters, Patrice Rose and her husband, Donald, of Massachusetts and Eileen McGhie and her husband, Ronald, of Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend and care giver, Karla Nason. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James W. Evans; and a brother, Vincent Woeppel. The family thanks the staff of Westgate Manor for the professional and loving care of Louise.
A memorial service will be private for the family. Interment will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
