SALEM, Mass. — A former Salem man has been charged with repeatedly sexually abusing a girl over a three-year period starting when she was just 6 years old.
Jonathan Hare, 29, who was living in Buckfield, Maine, just before his arrest, pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated child rape and another seven counts of indecent assault and battery on a child during his arraignment Wednesday in Salem Superior Court.
The incidents came to light just after Christmas, when the girl’s grandmother told investigators from the Department of Children and Families that the girl had disclosed that she was being abused by the man.
The abuse began when the man moved in with the girl and her mother, prosecutor John Brennan said during yesterday’s hearing.
The girl told investigators that Hare would sneak into her room at night and touch her, including between her legs. He also engaged in other acts, the prosecutor said, which led to one of the rape counts.
According to court papers, the girl’s mother had also recently learned of the abuse.
The incidents took place in several North Shore communities where the girl and her mother lived, including Salem, Marblehead, Gloucester and Beverly, the prosecutor said.
The girl said Hare told her that if she told anyone, he would kill her. But some of the incidents were apparently witnessed by one of her brothers, who corroborated her account, according to court papers.
Hare had been held on $10,000 bail after his arrest, but Judge John Lu increased that to $15,000 bail, an amount his family is not expected to post. If they do, he’s facing a string of conditions, including an order barring contact with the victim or her family, and no unsupervised contact with children under 16.

Find an island and put all the sex offenders there. They can rehabilitate themselves. Some, not all re-offend. They can re-offend on each other.
I liked this thought at first then thought about it and they could end up knocking each other up and have babies that dont need to be put in that situation. I say tie a cement block to them and throw em in the ocean let sea creatures prey on them.

I am kind of confused by a couple things with this story. It said that the grandmother was told just after Christmas?? Why did she wait so long to contact police? Did the mother know what was going on? You gotta wonder if this has supposedly happened in several places of residence, that she had to have had an idea. They need to send a message to the other molesters in Maine that we are not going to coddle any more molesters and sentence him to the harshest penalty with ZERO PLEA deals. From what we do know, it seems likely the kids were already living with grandma or in foster care when this came to light. She might have reported it right away. Even if the accused was their father it’s easy enough for social services to get immediate restraining orders protecting the children. I suspect that he “lawyered up” when they tried to question him. Perhaps the victim, her grandma and her brother had several sessions with a psychologist/investigator first. That often helps build a solid case.

I am guessing, but it doesn’t seem the mother could have known him very well, and allowed him to move in with the family. One can’t be too careful these days with these miscreants always looking for a victim.
i remember watching a program (sorry i can’t remember where or the name of the show) but anyways it said some sex offenders will make some women their targets and be interested in the woman they are pursuing but in reality they are interested in her daughters or even their sons. When are we just going to impose the death penalty straight up for these people? A murderer, a thief, drug trafficker all can and have changed their ways, a pedophile does not, EVER.
