SPRINGFIELD – Joan Cote Moores, 84, died July 1, 2012, after a long illness. Joan was born March 16, 1928, in Old Town, the daughter of Florence Sirois Cote and Wilfred Cote of Bradley, both deceased; and was the wife of Hazen Austin Moores.
She was predeceased by her brother, Wilfred “Bill” Cote; and sister, Doris Whitehead, both of Old Town. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, “Haz”; her daughter, Suanne Moores Giorgetti and her husband, Steven, of Fairfield and granddaughters, Joanne Giorgetti and fiance, Tobyn DeYoung, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Julie Larouche and her husband, Kristian Larouche, of Fairfield and Jessica Scott and her husband, Andrew Scott, of Hampden; her son, Brett C. Moores and fiancee, Shawna MacIntyre, of Vassalboro and grandchildren, Morgan Moores and fiance, Joe MacMahan, of Phippsburg, Emily Theriault and husband, Patrick, of Oakland, Adrienne Moores of Oakland and Will Moores of Oakland, along with their mother, Gabrielle Martin. Joan’s life was blessed with the joy of eight great-grandchildren, Steven, Maranda and Caroline Centeno of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tyler, Macie and Kristian Larouche of Fairfield, Alexis and Abigail Scott of Hampden.
Joan had many interests, especially enjoying travel with family and friends. Some of her favorite destinations include Saint Andrews-by-the-Sea; Ruskin, Fla.; Williamsburg, Va.; Quebec, Paris, London, Las Vegas, and cruisin’ the Caribbean, Alaska and Panama Canal. Joan devoted 34 years of her life to education being remembered by many former students not only as an outstanding educator but a very nice lady. Throughout her career she served as a teacher of English, Latin and French in the Maine towns of Newport, Presque Isle and Lee. She especially enjoyed immersing countless students in the French culture through class trips to Quebec. In addition, she coached many students to successful performances in one act plays and prize speaking. Joan will be remembered and loved by all whose lives she touched.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8:30 p.m. July 6 at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where a celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. July 7. Interment will be at Lowell-Moores Cemetery, Carroll. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at
