BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested on charges of assault, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest early Saturday morning after he was involved in an altercation with another man outside the Ramada Inn.
Mark Elkins, 28, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. after he reportedly became engaged in a heated argument with another man, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday. He said that the argument involved some profane language as well as some offensive gestures.
Bangor police Officer David Farrar stepped in to get the two men to separate, which they did after Farrar warned them three times, Edwards said.
The two combatants had just started walking away from each other when Elkins “suddenly ripped his shirt off, threw his hat to the ground and approached [the man he had been fighting with] with his fists clenched,” Edwards said. “He then punched the other guy in the face.”
Elkins then reportedly resisted Farrar’s attempts to arrest him, pushing, pulling and struggling even after the officer had to wrestle him to the ground, according to the report. Eventually, however, Elkins was placed in a police car and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
