BANGOR and ORONO – David Scott Smith, 67, died July 4, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Oct. 15, 1944, in Bangor, the son of Basil L. and Ellen Rae (Hurd) Smith.
David graduated from Orono High School, class of 1963, and Maine Central Institute in 1964. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy. David worked in the family business at Dakins Sporting Goods for many years. He was a member of Veazie Salmon Club and loved to fish, hunt or just be in the woods, but mostly loved spending time with his family.
David is survived by two daughters, Ellen (Smith) and her husband, Robert Tourigny, of Manchester, N.H., and Jennifer and her husband, Salah El Alami, of Las Vegas; son, David James Smith of Bangor; two sisters, Sarah and her husband, Kenneth MacFawn, of Rumford and Martha and her husband, Karl Beiser, of Belfast; brother, Mark Smith and his wife, Constance, of Bangor; special friend, Velma Scott of Old Town; mother of his children, Barbara B. Smith of Bangor; and grandchildren, Claire and Laura Tourigny, Isabella Smith, and Adam El Alami.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main St., Orono. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at the church.
