BANGOR, Maine — The drummer for musician Ted Nugent is facing multiple charges after police say he drunkenly stole a golf cart after the band’s show on the Bangor waterfront Sunday, according to police.

Bangor police Officers Steve Jordan and Jim Dearing were working at the waterfront pavillion during Sunday’s show featuring Styx, REO Speedwagon and Nugent when security alerted them to an issue behind the stage, according to a news release from Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Police were alerted that Mick Brown, 55, who is Nugent’s drummer, had stolen a golf cart used by Waterfront Concerts staff and was drunkenly driving it around the Front Street area at about 9:45 p.m., according to Edwards.

Several people had attempted to stop Brown, but he had sped away down the foot path near the Sea Dog, the sergeant said. Jordan later observed the cart with two females on board near the Railroad Street crossing, and attempted to stop Brown, again without success.

After Brown had accelerated past Jordan, Edwards said a security officer got close enough to stop him, but Brown gave the officer a shove. Two other security team members removed Brown from the cart physically and he was placed under arrest.

Brown was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and booked on charges of operating under the influence, driving to endanger, theft and assault. He was later released on $4,000 bail.

Brown is due in court Aug. 15.

    1. Imagine the after show party with Merle Haggard, David Allen Coe, Willie Nelson, and/or Johnny Cash in their primes.

    2. A few years ago Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw got in trouble for stealing police horses after a show.

    3. Jake Owen arrested,  Chris Cagle arrested, Rodney Atkins arrested, Randy Travis arrested,  David Allen Coe arrested, Willie Nelson arrested, Johnny Cash arrested… wait… were you being sarcastic? ‘Cause if that’s the case, ha!  Good one!

    1. Yeah, didn’t Kiss tear up their hotel after their appearance at the BA in ’76?  I think they were banned from Bangor if I’m not mistaken.  Let’s hope they OPEN the new arena for a little poetic justice.  I think they’re past their hotel” busting up” days.

      1. “I stay in hotels
        tear out the walls
just leave a message’ maybe I’ll call”

Something like that. Life’s been good to him so far….

      2. I was at the KISS concert and also at the Nugent concert-both awesome and who cares if a golf cart went 8 mph “out of control”.  We need experiences such as this, what do we live with our heads in the sand.  This is fodder for the idiots.

        1. The hotel was the old Holiday Inn on Maine Street.  8 mph on a golf cart? Hancock County Sheriff can go 103 mph on tape on his way home and not get a ticket or fired.   I think we’re looking at DA discretion, and this will go away quietly or be reduced to public intoxication and a small fine.

          1. I agree…I don’t think the OUI will stick…He never went on the road…He will also have VERY good lawyers…LOL…

          1. did they let 12 year olds in back in those days?  no one was frisked during those days.  pot and full wineflasks outnumbered the people.  those days were crazy and fun!

          2. Oh yeah.  I was a big kid and actually looked older but me and three friends went with no problems.  We were straight laced (then : )  ) but knew what it was all about.  Those were some really fun times at the old BA!

      1. I imagine that the set went something like this:
30 mins for Stranglehold, 10-minute break, 5 mins for Cat Scratch Fever?

        1. No, actually they did all the hits, back to back, with no Grateful Dead type jam session.

    1. The Kennebec Journal reports that it was $400,000 Bail.  There have been numerous stories in the old BDN reporting arrests for major crimes that get a small fraction of this amount.  I understand that they want to  insure that someone from Arizona will show up to court, but this really seems out of proportion!

I think that grinning face says it all…Foxtrot Yankee!

      1. $400,000 bail for this? Come on now, let’s use some common sense when we read articles now. He would have had to of done some serious damage or have some warrants out for him to deserve that steep of a bail.

      1. not knowing what it was that I saw I wish I had paid more attention..
I think he did pretty well not ending up in the Penobscot by the city landing.  He was on a tear across the lawn and made the jump at the curb’s edge. I will give him credit he did warn the two bab’ettes to hang on for the landing.  Kudos to the the shotgun mama on the back who never fell off.

        1. You have provided more insight to this incident than the entire article.  Enquiring minds who wanted to know thank you, sir.

    2. Are you kidding?

This clown doesn’t even know WHERE he is!

He probably thinks that he is in a photo booth at Old Orchard Beach!

    3. Quite a shot, with no visible neck he’d be well cast for the lead in “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.”

  1. Happiest mugshot on here in a long time! Must’ve been a fun show…wish you were here! LOL

  2. We are all famous for something and its usually the last thing.  I am glad to see that Bangor PD held him accountable.  An opportunity and responsibility to be a role model for aspiring talent, yet thrown away with self indulgence and drunken disregard.  I wonder what Ted thinks of his actions for they ultimately reflect on him.

          1. Well, it was one girl, aged 17, when he was 30 and he didn’t have any legal problems as a result of it however your point is well taken.

          2. If it had happened in Maine it wouldn’t have even been a crime…16 is old enough here..Not that I agree…It SHOULD be 18…

        1.  “Uncle Ted” is like the weird creepy uncle that no one wants to invite to Thanksgiving.

    1. Yes. Clearly after providing percussion to tone poems such as “Keep Using My Gun And See What Happens” and “Wang Dang Sweet P##nt$$g” one would imagine a talented virtuoso to be more inclined to attend a Chautauqua lecture than to wake up in his own vomit.

    2. Of course they’re holding him responsible. Easy money to collect from a wealthy man!

    3.  I didn’t see any apology anywhere.Looks like the councilors who wanted him banned were right.

    1. Yea. Let’s let all these drunken out-of-staters steal what ever they want, bust up anything they want, drive like idiots where ever they want. They’re just drunken out-of-staters up here showing the hicks how to live.

        1. I do. You’re absolutely correct. And if you’re living in Maine, I’ll help you move.

          1. Excuse me?
The man points out that Maine has it’s fair share of drunks and you want him removed from Maine?
I will guarantee that Maine police spend far more time and resources dealing with Maine state drunks then out of state drunks.
Oh by the way – the moving van will be at my house Saturday at 7am – you can bring the coffee.

      1. Simmer down, Woodsy.  I didn’t say he shouldn’t have been arrested.  I just find it interesting that Bangor PD went into to such great detail about the damage done:

“No damage was reported to the cart although two traffic cones were damaged, one still under the cart, significantly so. “

        1. Yeah, good thing it was the smart one in that group.
So would Nugent have drawn down on the cops ?

          1.  I bet you are the person who never gets invited to anything. You sound like the old lady that screams for people to get off her lawn. No one said what he did was okay, relax and have a bit of a laugh sometime.

        1. That’s possible. I don’t remember seeing it. Still don’t see how that would make what this guy did right.

    2. Lol… He must have had a flashback to 25 years ago when this society wasn’t such an uptight nanny state.

    3. Yeah, it’s ok driving drunk through crowd of pedestrians and only hitting a bright orange cone.  He couldn’t have possibly hit anything else.  There’s no way with his impaired driving skills that he could have struck a person.  It’s all fun and games just striking a safety cone.   Yes, drive drunk.  Yeeehawwwwww!!!!

    1. Thugs as you say… My term of a thug would be a man/woman who robs people and beats people up fo no reason and generally breaks the law in violent ways for pure joy… this fella gets on a golfcart and jokingly rides around a bit to amuse himself and also the crowd enjoyed it also.. a THUG i say no… should he be fined for oui…no… should he befined for not stopping for a police officer…yes…. a thug…no.

      1. Stealing a stupid little golf cart and shoving an officer…  Sounds like he has issues.

  3. I love the pic!  He looks very happy.  Sounds like he was having a good time…but everything is a crime these days.  Hope the ladies were worth it!

  4. Watch out! Driving to Endanger on an 8 mph golf cart…….. the humanity of it all….

  5. It’s getting bad in Bangor,a low speed pursuit lol,4000.00 bail is probably more than the cart was worth,Sorry some one from Waterfront concerts actually had to walk lol.

  6. I like how they made is seem like a wild police chase. It doesn’t say much for security when they can’t catch a fat guy on a golf cart.

  7. The sad thing here is he gets a 4,000 cash bail for misdemeanor crimes and the Lady the run Guy over at the last concert  and KILLED him gets a $60. PR bail.

  8. Paltry compared to Keith Richrds exploits. And then there’s Joe Walsh whose manager bought him a chainsaw for Christmas 30 years ago so Joe would have an easier time of trashing hotel rooms.

  9. So does that mean we are going to get an encore performance August 14th or 15th? Hope the tickets go on sale soon.

  10. Just think of the revenue the general fund could rack up if the po po was to start patrolling golf courses looking for open containers and drunk “drivers”…….

  11. lmao!!! oh man,, big news! you can’t make this stuff up! at least he didn’t act like our resident’s.. he even looks like he’s enjoying bangor! gotta love it,, harmless fun, well except for that severely damaged traffic cone,, heh heh..

  12. Reminds me of that time The guy from Extreme makeover home edition was in maine and got a DUI only he was in a real vehicle and an actual threat to people

  13. Stole a golf cart come on. Just something else to bag the waterfront. If he had stole a police car he may have been alright because they are down alot of officers and would have been hired johnny on the spot.

  14. I didn’t know you could be arrested for OUI in a golf cart – but some of the rest of the behavior sounds kinda out of control.  On the other hand, the image of Bangor police being out-foxed several times by an older drunk guy on a golf cart is not overly flattering to them either.  Probably ticked them off royally – hence the throwing of the book at him.

      1. I know someone who was charged with it while driving their lawn mower down the side of the road.

        1. Same in Orient years (um, decades) ago … a notable Houlton business family guy (30-something “kid”) … used to (routinely) drive his riding lawn mower – drunk – from his East Grand Lake camp over to the store at Deering Lake (5 miles each way).

Let’s see, I wonder if it was it a ‘deere’ or an INTERNATIONAL mower?

      2.   My neighbor’s dad was arrested for DUI while installing a car stereo.Car never left the driveway but keys in ignition and engine warm.

  15. Betcha he went back to the tour bus that night and pounded a few back with Ted, laughing about the time some small town cops arrested him when he was hammered on a golf cart.

  16. All he did was distract the cops that were going to the bus to investigate the report that they had 2 lbs of “sugar”.

  17. He’s a professional rocker, stealing golf carts is kid stuff in comparison. Rasing hell is probly part of his contract with Nugent band!

  18. just goes to show ya, if you want to pick up girls get yourself a golf cart and a 6 pack….

  19. Celebrating the last concert in their 2012 series with a joy ride along the waterfront…glad no one got hurt….

  20. The concert was awesome, such good music, so many obnoxious drunks….not in golf carts….

  21. All charges will be dropped.  The security guards probably put the cones in his way as a substitute spike strip………………seems to have worked.  Now if we only had video!

  22. oh there are alot of drunk, high idiots out there. I would really like to find the one in winterport late saturday night that was driving down the wrong side of the road and probably would have killed me my girlfriend and her 7 year old daughter if we weren’t paying attention.  idiots. we had to pull into the breakdown lane and he still passed us on our side of the road.

  23. We will need pics of the female riders to determine his judgement in this episode thank you

    1.  There is actually a couple of book collections of mug shots.SCREAMINGLY funny!Nick Nolte cover,I think.

  24. BREAKING NEWS: The Bangor Waterfront Security Team in in hot pursuit of the bass player from Sweet Cheetah who is on a segway. The Security team has set up multiple roadblocks blocks consisting of folding lawn chairs and red solo cups, but so far the suspect is still on the loose.

  25. Nuge would have been on the cart too, but he was busy sucking up to John Boehner. (come one come all, it’s a free-for-all!)  Was the court date set in autumn? Maybe they can do some hunting when they come back.

  26. I think the waterfront concerts are out if control. I went once and will never go back.security was very rude to me.

  27.  “he had sped away down the foot path near the Sea Dog, the sergeant said.”  How fast was this hijacked golf cart!?

  28. i thought this type of drunken driving only happened in Vanceboro Maine where there is NO LAW to stop it. Teddy oughta play up there they have the best Buds to smoke too.

  29. I knew it was a big mistake letting this band play here. This city may never be the  safe little hamlet it was just yesterday. Damned vandals.

  30. Wow, this sounds familar to what a branch manager of a “local” bank in Machias tried doing this past January after winning “Manager of the Year”. Her vehicle of choice was a pizza delivery car.

  31. alright! another Ted Nugent concert in August (after court appearance, of course).

  32. II can’t believe they ain’t no video of this someone needs to file a foi request the public needs to know

  33. I was laughing soooooooo hard reading the description of this ‘hot’ pursuit, I nearly pee’d my pants!  Glad no one got hurt. Hope the babettes were as hot as the chase.  And then, to see that oh, so very happy face, well… made my day!  :)  Is this a new twist to… Come sail away, come sail away with me?  Glad that thing only went 8 MPH. Mighta taken flight!  That’s the way we do it uh huh… uh huh…Slip and slide, duck and dive, rock and roll!

  34. I want to see how many nasty emails I get with comments. …..wow these concerts are bad ……hit and runs and not this. Lmao

  35. Several witnesses reportedly heard the drummer stating, “Where’s that little Charlie Longo? I’ll squash him like that orange cone I just ran over”

  36. I’m glad he was not texting while he was driving like this.  He was having fun.  Why are the Bangor police so serious about someone trying to have a little fun??

  37. Glad he was stoped before he found I-95, they would have to call the troopers. And they are busy looking for jail brids that flew the coup.

  38. and oh…I read about people in Bangor being killed on a daily basis and most the crimes get little attention.  This minor incident with Ted Nugent’s drummer makes the headlines…come on give me a break.  The Gov was talking about the IRS being the next Gestapo…what about our law enforcers in Bangor ME going ape over someone trying to have a good time.  Now, do you think Ted will ever come back to Bangor for a concert?  No way.

      1. In this newspaper.  I’m glad I live in northern maine where people don’t go around killing each other…instead they run in moose with their Harley’s.

        1. I think (hope) I misunderstood. I thought you meant people were being killed every day. I went to Rascal Flatts last week and was very happy to get back on 95 and head north.

  39. This won’t be as bad, they will video conference him in on the hearing while he is taking an intermission at the next concert states away, give him a virtual slap on the wrist and tell him if he is booked again to remember to stay out of trouble.

  40.  So they’ll come back to make an encore appearance at seasons end (court date)?   We’d better get ready………. make a home-made fleet of golf carts with v-8 engines and gun scabbards for “Ted and the boys”.   Just in time for hunting season……………

  41. It’s an uplifting tale of a man young at heart.  Mick knows that however many tours you have under your belt, you’re never too old to be a jackassrock star.

  42. Will this be enshrined in the annals of Bangor legends, right up there with the Brady gang’s demise………hmmmmm…..time will tell, I guess.

  43. I am sure that Ted will comment at his next comment about the Bangor PD being like the Gestapo or something..LOL.  I wonder if they will be invited back.  Styx and REO were awesome, but i have no problem if good ole Ted never shows his face again.

  44. he should have grabbed a four wheeler, wow he could have made it all the way to the mall

  45. Well he don’t know where he’s going
    And he sure goes slow,
Can’t seem to make it go fast.

And I don’t know if he knows this
    But he will soon know,
His ugly mug shot will last.

When you get Golf Cart Fever
He’s got the Golf Cart Fever

  46. He just wanted ta look cool for the ladies with his new ride ~ and it worked  he actually picked up 2 babes—only ta be shut down by the cops – What a bummer Maine is to these Famous Rock starz -no fun ta be had here and had to spend what he prob made –on bail ! hahaha

  47. Ok, this is rediculous.  I have had the misfortune to be in the courtroom a lot lately with my son.  I have seen the bail total’s set for different crimes.  The city gives this guy a 4,000 fine and
bail, for …..stealing a golf cart.  he did ZERO damage to the cart, he didnt hurt anyone, and yet our court system lets someone who actually KILLS someone on Main St. and then leaves the scene of an accident only 5 years??  Is the huge money ammount because he is good for it or what??  Again, i think the guy was a putz for doing it, but that is a bit excessive.

  48. Just watched the video, wow!!They are all really old!!!And the crowd is all old fat people!!!!WTF????

    1. Young bands nobody’s ever heard of (generally because they’re terrible) and old bands you’re vaguely surprised to discover are still alive: Bangor’s key concert markets.  One type of act attracts young drunks, the other old stoners.  Of the two, I’ll take the latter.  Old stoners are less likely to set things on fire.

  49. I think the drummer must be suffering from CAT SCRATCH FEVER! Damaging an Orange SAFETY Cone is serious business in Maine. He’ll probably be sent to Warren for that one & given 25 yrs. :)

  50. I knew we shouldnt have let the Nuge’ come to bangor!

this is the best story I have read on BDN online in like 2 years.
