One person died and two people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a Bangor house fire.
The fire broke out at the home divided into two apartments at the intersection of Cedar and Second streets at 6:36 a.m., Bangor Fire Chief Eric Pelletier said. It took two minutes for firefighters to arrive on scene, because it’s near the Bangor Fire Department’s Central Station on Main Street.

Three people were outside the house when firefighters arrived, and they said one person was still inside, Pelletier said. Two of the people outside were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation that’s not considered life-threatening, Pelletier said.
Firefighters found one person deceased, he said. A dog also died in the fire.
It appears the fire started on the first floor and spread through all three floors, Pelletier said. Firefighters encountered cluttered conditions inside the house that made it difficult to maneuver, he said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, he said.
Firefighters didn’t hear any smoke detectors when they entered the house, Pelletier said. He stressed the importance of working smoke detectors.

The Red Cross is expected to be called to the scene to assist people who were displaced, Pelletier said.
The state fire marshal’s office and Bangor police were on scene.
