ROCKLAND, Maine — A 26-year-old Rockland woman was released on $5,000 cash bail last week after police said she threw boiling water on her male partner.
Jenna Walsh was arrested at 9 p.m. Sunday, July 1, by Rockland police and charged with aggravated domestic violence assault.
Rockland Police Chief Bruce Boucher said that, according to the police report, the two had been arguing about an ex-boyfriend when she threw the boiling water on the victim. The man suffered third-degree burns and was taken to the special care unit at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
The bail commissioner set bail at $5,000 cash. Walsh since has been released from the county jail. Bail conditions include that Walsh not use alcohol and report weekly to the Rockland Police Department.
If that’s a felony charge it is most appropriate.

When my mother was in fear of her abusive first husband and in the process of getting a divorce the best advice her parents could give her was to keep the kettle boiling. That was in 1932 and domestic violence just wasn’t acknowledged. Sounds like someone heard tales from the bad old days.

Charges will be reduced because she’s a woman, and she will get a slap on the wrist and won’t have to attend a anger management or batterer’s intervention program like the men do.
